Re: In honour of our fallen comrade Jacmoe

Awwww, no more good cop to go with the bad? Xavier won't even know what to do without a yang to his ying ;). jacmoe, you've always been a gentleman and a scholar. Have a beer on me. Mistakes only turn into regrets if you never learn from them. I'm sorry I missed that thread, for maybe I could have t...

Re: Global Warming - Fact or fiction?

I propose that the discussion of "climate change" should be presented to the great public in the following manner: Question: Do you want to inhale harmful smoke? Now the citizens go and answer the question. An overwhelming majority of all the people in the World will answer a clear 'no' to that que...

Re: Global Warming - Fact or fiction?

The fundamental flaw in Jerky's logic is that he assumes Global Warming to be fiction because it cannot be proven (at this point in time) as fact. You don't know the past 3.5 billion years worth of C02 levels in the atmosphere, yet you somehow think that disproves Global Warming? Why not try to mak...

Re: Global Warming - Fact or fiction?

You guys need to learn graph reading 101. Here are a couple things that should help explain my problem with the graphs you keep showing (over an over): http://i47.tinypic.com/8vulir.jpg The whole point of the graph is to show that CO2 levels and temperature always correlate. The problem is that the ...

Re: Global Warming - Fact or fiction?

So I was wondering: what ever happened to the Great Ozone Scare? You don't hear about ozone anymore; was that "problem" "solved"? Since ozone is responsible for absorbing incoming radiation (about 19%) it would seem reasonable that less ozone == more incident radiation == higher surface temperature...

Re: Global Warming - Fact or fiction?

so now that you got the data that make sence, you guys believe it ?? Actually, no. That data only goes to 1950, so we have to go to other sources. This page is a better step to understanding the data: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carbon_dioxide There is one major problem I have with it th...

Re: Global Warming - Fact or fiction?

Jason, this graph is the most reliable thing we can have about the past. whatever rotation or sunspot, these are averages. if these data where not valid, scientists would have noticed it... See, that's the issue I have with the whole debate. That graph is the best we can do ... meaning, we really h...

Re: Global Warming - Fact or fiction?

* Well, you repeatedly ask scientists to be "sure". But as you pointed out they do know that their tools are inaccurate at best. So what do you advice? Just wait and hope that they were wrong? But if they are right for just a minimal part, then you are 20 years behind of schedule to solve the probl...

BTW, welcome back -- nice to see you're still around! :) Good to be back. I'll stop hijacking this post, after this small clarification. Our "stated" goal was the act of creation. Even the quote you give from PW's website only talks about creation. I purposefully never mentioned a completion goal (...

Re: Global Warming - Fact or fiction?

No offense to anybody, but I think that comes off as a bit ignorant to think that we as humans can't affect the planet (something so massive) in a meaningful way. We have smog, we have acid rain, we have habitat loss and environmental ecosystems becoming more tainted with our pollutants, species be...

Re: Global Warming - Fact or fiction?

Humans possess an arrogance unique among all creatures, that we somehow have the ability to affect something so massive in any meaningful way. We also have a tendency towards instant gratification, which leads us to believe things happen on a much smaller scale than global history -- in other words...

You need to look into Project Wish and understand why the effort was ended. Re-routed rather. Sigh, xavier. PW was one of the best things that ever happened to me. @omniter: If you want help, I've always been willing to donate art to Ogre. Not sure what tools you've got there, but I love the sketches so far. If you want to make that guy as low-to-mid poly, I'd be happy to ZBrush him up for you to generate some normal maps, etc. Let me know if you're interested...

Re: I have a couple questions about using OGRE in an MMO.

If you would like some tips from those who have used Ogre to work on an MMO, check out my project (which is no longer in development). Otherwise you could check out Multiverse, which is built from Axiom (which has a version of Ogre at its heart, although not the same version we see here). My link is...

My experience has been the opposite, really -- I think you may have one or two inexplicable outliers coloring your view of the state of the games industry. I've worked for three different studios and in each case, everyone who worked there was getting paid a fair salary. I can't explain the situati...

Re: Project Wish code released under BSD

Hmm, I just went back through my logs to make sure I had my facts straight. The team had just finished a AAA title and offered him 30k. They were in WI, iirc, if that changes the cost of living and salaries any. He asked to negotiate, and that's how it went to like 35k. He then turned it down. :( I ...

Project Wish wiki now open to public

I don't mean to spam, but this isn't really related to the code, although it is slightly. The entire Project Wish wiki (formerly hidden) is now open to public view. There is a wealth of information on there for those who are interested in development, design, art, collaboration, and many other thing...

But an offer of 35k for a programmer, who does have some experience, both with games and other work? Horrible. I got offered 35k at my first Network Engineering job with no degree, and only some experience. Out of curiosity -- this offer wasn't in the Bay Area I take it? Not even startups around he...
