Re: ROAM Planet rendering

This is a very exciting forum topic guys, I wish you both all the best! ... if the camera moves slowly (say under 120 kph) it's fine, but this will be a space simulation, we will be flying space ships over the terrain at much faster speeds than that... Would it be possible to simply turn down the de...

Re: TheFunTheory / Great initiative

Very clever marketing campaign indeed. They are not directly advertising any real product but are still generating huge interest by appearing to serve the public with fun and free gimmicks. I'm not just been cynical here -I genuinely like this idea! You could think of billions of things that could b...

Just played it - I love it. Very crisp and refreshing graphics. I don't think their has ever been a more abstract racer, but with the post processing effects and the music, it works. Well done and good luck with it.

Re: New Terrain Early Shots

Wow, just watched the terrain video for the first time. This is amazing stuff - lighting and shadows continuing across independant tiles like that? Just fantastic. Had my sound switched off and wondered why there was no movement until I realised Steve was giving a commentary. Is that a first Steve? ...

Re: Book: Game Engine Architecture - Jason Gregory

Hey guys, so far I've only found the hardcover version of this book.
I only get time to read when I'm lying in bed before I sleep, and for these practical comfort related reasons I need softcover :P

Is there any plans for a softcover version any time soon? Like before christmas?

Re: First video/computer game you ever played?

I used to be addicted to arcade machines when I was a kid. Dont know the first one I ever played but I bet it was Pacman. The first game bought for me was probably Frogger on my Commodore 20. The first PC games I ever "obtained" for my first PC (386) was Mortal Kombat, Test Drive and Dune II. The fi...

Hey Christian, I must admit that after initially seeing your shots of space ships, I never really "got" what it was you were going for here, but having seen your video, I now get it  And it looks like really good fun! Seriously, I love scrolling shoot em ups and I'm loving the whole 3D motion ...

Re: The Duke is dead

I found this Penny Arcade comic, where the guys are wondering when this game might show, but it was from 1999!! I can't believe it was nearly 10 years ago, I feel very old. I think a huge amount of kids, even on these boards wont have a clue who Duke is.

P.S. A remake of Duke in Ogre would be ace.

Are you using OGRE to render the 3D scene in your tool? And if not... why not? :)

I wonder if they created their own 3D rendering engine - it seems so. What a shame that they didnt consider OGRE, which has already proven to run well in similar environments.

Wow, sounds impressive Kojack. So if this was somehow integrated into Ogre it 'could' give speed enhancements on bigger meshes for free - no catches?
