Kong teaser
I've been working on this game called Kong with a friend for some time now. I do all the programming and he is in charge of artwork. It's a multi player action game where each player controls a monkey. The game style is actually very similar to FPS shooters like quake/half-life/counterstrike, etc... except that rather than seeing through the players eyes you have a top down view of the action.
Here is a list of features currently implemented:
- Physics including ragdolls (using AGEIA's Physx engine)
- Sound effects (using FMOD)
- Graphics (using ogre of course)
- Bot artificial intelligence
- Networking (using enet)
- Particle effects
- Weapons: Katana, Machine gun (single and dual wield), Rocket Launcher
- In-game map editor (similar to that found in trackmania)
- Graphical user interface (using CEGUI)
- Console
- Input (using OIS)
- Minimap
- Lightmapping
Here is a video of the progress so far, this was recorded playing against 3 computer controlled bots:

Sorry for the rather low video quality, it seems to get compressed like this automatically by youtube. I'll include a screenshot as well:

No it is free, but I'm not quite ready to release it yet. There is still a bit of work that needs to be done before I get to that stage. There are a number of weapons that need to be added, and I'll need to test the multiplayer networking code with a large number of players (currently I've only tested it with 2 players). I may be looking for people to help out with that thoughesuvs wrote:Hey, that looks awesome! I wanna play! Is it a commercial project or can we give it a go?
Thanks for the positive feedback anyway. I'm afraid I've never played Shock Troopers, so I wouldn't really know if its like it or not

VERY cool. I was planning on making a game kinda like this a while back (I still have the design documents on my computer, along with quite a few other game I've put on the electron shelf inside muh compooter box).
I like the style of it. It's fast paced, which makes me happy . I really liked the katana . I can't wait to play this.

But playing a dedicated server isn't THAT funSpaceDude wrote:In terms of Linux, I definitely plan to support at least dedicated server on Linux.
Yes, I noticed your choice of libs so I thought I might ask. Too sad but if I can lend a helping hand to port it just pm me...In theory I should be able to port the whole thing to Linux because all the libraries I have used are cross-platform. But this is not a priority on my todo list I'm afraid.
