Energy Tycoon
Hi all,
Since 4 months we've been working on this game called "Energy Tycoon". Energy Tycoon is a classical tycoon game, where the player builds up and manages an electricity company. You can build 25 different powerplants, resource gathering facilites and company buildings (i.e. research center). You can trade with resources, research new technologies and execute special actions like election bribes, price rigging, etc. There are several different maps (For now: Germany, France, USA) with many missions and a tutorial. All planned features of the game are implemented, altough there still is a considerable amount of polishing, balancing and testing to do. The 3D art is about halfway done. 2D art currently consist mostly of placeholders. (see screenshots)
The game will be released in about 2-3 months as freeware.
Technology:
Game: C++ using OGRE, OIS, MyGUI, tinyXML, boost
Tools: Python using Tkinter
Normal game view
Coal mining
News
Some management windows
Cheers,
Michael

Yes, everything non-3D you see is done with MyGUI, even the floating city names. The charts and the minimap are manually created textures.aerique wrote:Is all the GUI I see done with MyGUI?

Wow very cool! In the last screenshot I can't read what the green text is, not sure if thats a good color to use for text, especially on that background. Just my input anyway.

Very nice, I have wasted countless hours playing Transport Tycoon deluxe (and now OpenTTD).
Looks like another victim of .jpg compression.KungFooMasta wrote:Wow very cool! In the last screenshot I can't read what the green text is, not sure if thats a good color to use for text, especially on that background. Just my input anyway.

Re: Energy Tycoon
I noticed your list of 3rd party libraries doesn't include sound?
Oh and one other thing, I'm all for saving a few bucks but I'd be willing to pay for a game like this if it was polished enough. Are you sure you want to release it as freeware?

And about the freeware thing, I don't think the sales for this game would be worth mentioning. We mostly created this game out of enthusiasm for tycoon games and to gain experience. Our next game will definitely be commercial though.

Re: Energy Tycoon
Hey, I just checked gamedev.net and saw that your game is featured in the IOTD section. What I didn't see is that you made it with OGRE. Really nice. I'm just starting out with Ogre (actually, I'm currently trying to get used to the Linux Build chain, coming from a Windows developer background) so Ogre is not my first priority. Whatever, I just want to say that every time I see another game made with Ogre, I'm more and more obsessed by wanting to get into it as quickly as possible

Re: Energy Tycoon
Hmm... I remember I watched closely this thread a few weeks last year, but I forgot when some months happened and the game was not released. It's a pity, because it looked really good and I was looking forward to play it...

Re: Energy Tycoon
Game looks very cool, awesome artwork for a freeware project!
How about making build files for the source releases? CMake is great (i don't know which IDE, or build system you are working with, but it also has generators for almost every IDE)
