Re: Gorilla - minimal hud and overlay replacement for OGRE

Hi Guys,

I'm still alive, just been busy with non-OGREy stuff. I was thinking who would like to take up the challenge of porting this to Gorilla/OGRE.

https://github.com/memononen/nanovg

I mean who doesn't want 2D Vector Graphics :)

Your Friend,

Why not upload it as an attachment to the forum, so it will stay here forever :)

Re: Xbox One & Plastation 4 - Hardware

Although the camera aspect of Kinect has a ton of issues; privacy, standing up to play, etc. To me the microphone seems the better of the two in terms of features. From watching the Kinect from the Xbox 360 videos you can talk to the Xbox and make it do things - it seems pretty accurate and can obvi...

Re: Creating a milky way MAP

The Milkyway is a barred spiral galaxy, not a standard spiral galaxy. I did a tiny bit of Googling and you could use code based of this; http://codeboje.de/starfields-and-galaxies-python/ Another things that comes to mind is to look at star exploration programs such as SpaceEngine or Celestia, and s...

Let's hope they actually support C+11 fully in this version. The C++11 CTP Plugin for VS2012 they released is nice and all, but it's quite incomplete.

I've deactivated his account. If other mods want to delete him - be my guess, but he wasn't technically spamming (yet).

Re: Xbox One & Plastation 4 - Hardware

That is a very strange decision.

Why not just only have a version Windows 8 on there only? Not only for Skype and other applications, but for the games too. Surely using a Windows 8 operating system and APIs would be easier for development?

Re: C interface as core feature

the coding concepts introduced to C++ result in slower code, period. It's a hand wave if I ever heard one. I agree. You can be a terrible programmer in any language (C included), and it will run quite horribly. You can optimise in any language and get it running as fast as you can. It isn't the lan...

Re: Wrote a ray tracer (and rendered an animation with it)

Agreed. The basics of it is quite straightforward, so you can get something going before you learn all the particulars.

Here is something maddening - this is WebGL using a live GLSL ray-tracer.

Re: two wiki pages to delete

I agree.

It's not like NxOgre doesn't work anymore, it just means it's completed for PhysX 2.8.x, and the developer (myself) has no interest in writing it for further versions. It still works and is completed, just for an old version of PhysX.

Re: problem searching the word Lua

Hmm, you can search 'sites' with Googles' Advanced search. https://www.google.com/advanced_search?q=lua+site:ogre3d.org&lr=&hl=en&biw=1920&bih=979&noj=1&tbs=qdr:y,sbd:1 You can then do an advanced search, then there is an option to change by 'sort by relevance' to 'sort by date'. I'm not sure how up...

Has anyone got signed distance fields working with Gorilla yet?

It would be a nice addon to it, and it would allow people to not give the excuse of freetype is better :)

Re: Best way to handle GUI rendering in Ogre?

It really is difficult to write a GUI. Fine; buttons, sliders and text boxes (to an extent) are easy (providing you have a good 2D drawing layer) - but when it comes to more complicated UI then it gets excessive, it can be just as big as your program. I mean, you picked to use Ogre than using Direct...

Not tooting my own horn, but beastie (anyone remember that. ;)) it does ray casting, and organises meshes into an octree - so it should run a little better.

I'm not much help, and perhaps the API has changed since PhysX 2.82, but you can always look at how NxOgre did it. It's had proper working heightfields since day one.

Re: Set wheel position manually

Pretty sure you can convert Vec3s to Matrix44 in NxOgre, I think it's automatic too. (If it doesn't see if there is a SetGlobalPosition/SetPosition function)

If I remember correctly, that should work - the NxWheelShape doesn't have any specific properties about it's transform.

Re: What game are you playing now?

I have the Carrier Command soundtrack on tape. It came with my Amiga version, which was my first 3D game I ever played. Which I still play today now and again. I was kind of hoping that they honoured the original, from the development blogs and such it seemed to be like that, but apparently not. I t...

I actually like this idea, but it could only replace the help forums (obviously). You'd have to change the website so it's more integrated; i.e. wordpress, phpbb, stackoverflow-clone, wiki. Would all require the same style, navigation bar, perhaps even the same user account - for it to work effectiv...
