Re: Forum downtime 24th December
I'd prefer people just gave the new style some time and not have a knee-jerk reaction. Personally, it took me maybe a day to start preferring the avatar info on the right - it's more out of the way there, with the post content (the bit you really want to read) on the left where it's more prominent. I guess that's why they changed the default style. Please just try to use it before you start wanting to change it.
The old board had a white background too, except the dividing lines between posts were solid table-style rather than floaty-style. Again, default styles change.

Re: Forum downtime 24th December
Wohoo, this is going to take a bit of getting used to, but I like.
The thing is with the user details, it's harder to tell who posted when it's on the right, since you read from left to right. Hence, I have to move my eyes to see who wrote the message.
I'm most pleased with having it as /forums/; reaching for the shift key to type /phpBB2/ every time was a chore!
Thanks a million sinbad!

No you don't, it's right there at the top left of each post where it says 'by'.DanielSefton wrote:The thing is with the user details, it's harder to tell who posted when it's on the right, since you read from left to right. Hence, I have to move my eyes to see who wrote the message.

Yeah, I found it slightly weird the first time I saw a phpBB3 board but I definitely prefer it now. It's all about content 1st, extra info 2nd.sinbad wrote:I'd prefer people just gave the new style some time and not have a knee-jerk reaction. Good work Sinbad, I really like the new theme, Merry Christmas

Good work and I am happy to see all went well And yes skinning messageboards and making it right is VERY time consuming, lot of pixel pushing etc, thanks for that

Me likes!
It's going to take some time to get used to the new location of the poster information though.

Hm, looks like all links like http://www.ogre3d.org/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=38142 (with 'phpBB2' instead 'forums') broken now. Cay you make redirection?

Re: Forum downtime 24th December
You must have caught it in the 10-20 seconds while I was tidying the old structure away, which broke the redirect briefly before I put a placeholder back in. Works fine here now.altren wrote:Hm, looks like all links like http://www.ogre3d.org/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=38142 (with 'phpBB2' instead 'forums') broken now. Cay you make redirection?

Re: Forum downtime 24th December
Hehe, it lists the current bots reading the forum:
Gigabot [Bot]
Google [Bot]
Google Adsense [Bot]
MSN [Bot]
Yahoo [Bot]
Cool, moderators have some fun new abilities, notings on users, warnings, a log of every moderator's actions, even changing the username of a post to the name of any other user with the same ip address (so we can rename sock puppets).
People can report posts too, so we don't need to list them in the spam thread, just click the report button and mods will find it.
The only downside I can see is that there's not much visual difference between the new posts and no new posts icon. The yellow icon we had previously stands out more. Otherwise, groovy!
(Argh, it's christmas in 1h10min, should I start wrapping presents or experiment with admin features on here?)

Re: Forum downtime 24th December
I'd start experimenting. Christmas comes every year, but that's the only day, phpBB3 is introduced in this forum (of course)

Yeah, I'm quite impressed by the moderator facilities, hopefully they should make moderators lives easier.Kojack wrote:Cool, moderators have some fun new abilities, (...)

I also like that if you post a message and someone else has posted in between, it gives you a chance to revise your message. Neat.
Hmm, here the new posts (in a thread) are red and stand out pretty well. There is a 'new posts' facility, it's just a text link on the main page.Kojack wrote:The only downside I can see is that there's not much visual difference between the new posts and no new posts icon. I'd say Christmas takes precedence(Argh, it's christmas in 1h10min, should I start wrapping presents or experiment with admin features on here?)
I'm done here now I think, I've updated most of the links I can think of, but because of the redirects it doesn't hurt if there are some left over.
Merry Christmas everyone

Ohh... Australia!Kojack wrote:(Argh, it's christmas in 1h10min, should I start wrapping presents or experiment with admin features on here?)
Actually, I think I got used to the 'avatar on right' idea. I'm with Kojack on the new posts and no new posts icons though.
Man... I complain too much.

@sinbad: What do you mean by this? Deleting your post or did I miss a new feature?

Re: Forum downtime 24th December
Oh, and we now have friends and foes. Friends have their posts highlighted, and foes have their posts partially hidden.
But we've banned all the foes I can think of, so I can't try it.
Anybody want to be my foe?
Hmm, is the emote now female? It's got red lips.
(Edit: hmm, nope, it looks different now that it's posted. Must be this cheap lcd)
Finally, pressing quote or code puts it at the cursor, not the bottom of the post! YAY x1000

Re: Forum downtime 24th December
He means that if you click Reply and while you're typing your message someone else does the same and posts. when this happens, when you click 'Submit' it will tell you that someone else has posted a reply in the meantime and will show you what they said and let you change what you said to avoid you looking silly.spacegaier wrote:@sinbad: What do you mean by this? p.s. this happened while I was writing this message and so it gave me the chance to write this line here <---

Re: Forum downtime 24th December
That you won't post automatically if someone posted while you were writing your post
As expected, I'm yet to get used to the new layout and facilities, but will take no longer than getting used to vBulletin being a phpBB fan
This is looking good... YAY!
Merry Xmas everyone!
[EDIT] LOL it doesn't work if you wrote the reply while you were reading a two-pages thread But that was predictable

I actually logged out, and logged in again.
And all my unread posts are still here!
Totally great!
Now I just have to learn not to hit the Save button all the time..

Re: Forum downtime 24th December
My favorit-est feature of 3 is that super wide posts only affect that post and not the entire page so that I don't have to side scroll just to read comments. Now if only the phpbb devs can add an ignore thread feature, I'll be in heaven.
