Anyone know what happened to OGREMAX.com

Post by osborneaw »

Hi! Does anyone know what happened to ogremax.com and Derek Nedelman? We used to buy the product from that website.

We have the same problem. I heard he died in a freak trolley accident.

My guess would be that Easy Ogre Exporter undercut the business so much that he just stopped working on it. Revenues dry up, eventually he stops supporting it as well and moved on to something else.

I could be wrong (hopefully.) However the author hasn't been on since 2014: http://www.ogre3d.org/forums/memberlist ... le&u=12291
And the site was last updated around then as well. It went down around may 2016, you can still access it via wayback machine (but don't expect any login stuff.)

Yeah, I had noticed he had disappeared as well, I had contacted him to ask if he was working on a version for Ogre 2.1 and he said he was, but that was in November last year, so I guess things changed :(. I am going to have to re-think my 3D pipeline.... Maybe an Ogre 2.1 sandbox editor :D

ogreMax( RIP? ) was the only professional "realTime" DCC-ogre solution out their
i guess their is not much demand now for ogre based tools
lots of other proffesional 3rd-party devs also moved away from ogre to greener meadows
i like dark_sylinc's Dergo project- hope he will pick it up someday

meanwhile...searching for soulotions i came to a conclusion that the only half-resnobale solution is intergrating "Fabric engine" with ogre
http://fabricengine.com/overview/portable/
i did'nt really understood the licensing, but the way i see it, someone can write/maintain an open-source Ogre-Fabric plugin( DCC-Fabric-Ogre )
and the users( in addition to downloading the plugin ) will just need to download the "Free license"/"fabric trial"

fabric engine should be easy to integrate and will give ogre users seamless access to DCC authoring tools, there is still the licence question...
don't have time to do this now...anyone care to pick the tourch? (-:

We also used to have Ofusion, that was the first ogre 3ds max commercial exporter. http://www.ofusiontechnologies.com/
But it stopped updating around 2007.

I haven't heard anything about ogremax for a while. My students all moved to easyogre (they couldn't afford ogremax, and the free version was too limited), then moved to purely fbx and unity (sadly).

Did anyone of you purchase a license of OGREMAX (with sources access) in the past?

Bumping this up?

We've found Ogremax doesn't play nicely with Max 2019.

We never purchased the source.

Author Derek doesn't respond to messages on LinkedIn, Facebook, etc.

Does anyone have access to the source, or have any other suggestions for getting this working with 2019?

Cheers
