WIP: Twilight

Post by vastor »

Hi,
we are students at the GAMES ACADEMY (Berlin, Germany) and this is our project we are currently working on ...

It is a multiplayer realtime strategy game named Twilight (currently only german website). At present we are working on a trailer and a small realtime (terrain) demo.

Details about the gameplay will follow soon ...

The Team:
Michael Berkhahn (Teamleader; Programmer)
Anjo Gaul (Artist)
Robert Mueller (Lead Programmer)
Sascha Senftleben (Artist)
Falk Sonnabend (Lead Artist)
Sascha Stammer (Artist)

We are using "Ogre3D" (1.0.3) and "PLSM2" (CVS Head) ...

Screenshots:

As you will see our first goal was to build a nice looking sky. Next task will be the terrain ...

That drop ship transporter reminds me of a screenshot Ive seen somewhere. Could be the the new multiplayer Quake or something.

I love that sky. I've been scrounging around for techniques to do dynamic weather like night/day, real-time clouds, sun, moon, stars, and weather effects. The whole night/day cycle looks good. Great job!

Looks somewhat reminiscent of the Firefly class ship in the Firefly series/Serenity film. I like :)

Looking forward to assisting with the testing of your game, vastor :D

Looking great! Are you doing the sky with shaders or just a plain skydome material?

Thanks for the compliments, we are working very hard to get the terrain as neat as possible ...

The sky currently consists of a skybox with a moving starfield. Additionally there are two hemispheres. One for the atmosphere and the second for the moving clouds ...
The nebulae are on extra planes placed between the hemispheres and the skybox ...

To achive the day/night-cycle we use a shader that fades between the two atmosphere- and cloudtextures.

Fog is used to get a more realistic look (different day/night color) ...

Due to the fact that the demo runs only on hightend graphic cards (GeForce 6 & X800) we don't want to upload it until we have some fallbacks. Currently there is also just DirectX support ...
(but there will be a realtime demo at the Games Convention in Leipzig, Germany)

Hi my name is Falk and i'm an artist in the team twilight ...

As Vastor said, we are currently working on the terrain. Here are some new screenshots ...

The trees will get another texturevariation as well as the grass (a darker one). Now it looks too uniform ...

mhhh, the grass makes me think of all the nice summerdays we missed in the berlin parks.
On the other hand i think the time was well spent at the academy working on the projects.
Well done bros, looking forward to some exciting gameplay demos.
