I have been playing around with the Wii remote lately, and this is my first prototype combining Wii remote input + physics! It's a virtual version of a toy, where you flick a stick back and forth between other sticks. Screenshots and video below!

wow! awsome stuff! Can all the stuff necessary for this: the wii mote, reciever, etc be bought without actually buying the wii itself?

you only need a Wii remote (can be purchased separately from the Wii for US$40.00), and a bluetooth adaptor for your PC.

This demo requires 2 Wii remotes though. :)

p.s. I'm not sure why the youtube video is taking so long to go live... :(

UPDATE
I uploaded to Google video, which is now live. link in the first post!

2 wii remotes? There's no way to use the nunchuck? It has its own motion sensing functions that are used in several games. I can't afford another remote right now, even if I could find one.

Walaber, this is just too great!

I will clean up the demo and release the binary... and when I do, I will allow for a remote + nunchuck option as well :D

edit - the youtube video is also live now, same content as the others.

That's great man, I love the stuff you've done with Newton, such as the DBP wrapper.

I've said this someplace else in the ogre forums, however I'l repost it here cause it has more relavance here

I hope for wii remotes to become second-nature to ogre- wanna see/make/play ogre games using wii remotes- the potential! The wii has the remotes but the graphics are simple, while the ps3/xbox360 have awsome graphics but standard boring controls. It's be the chance for pc's to overtake them both by combining the two. Imagine a 2 or 4 core computer with a decend video card and wii remotes running an ogre game designed to accomodate those things. All hope rests with walaber- he could singlehandedly bring a victory to the pc in the console wars thus proving its supireority and making consoles all but redundant.

It's of course unlikely for people to get wii's just to use ogre apps with that support, especially if they are just casual pc users with no knowledge about ogre, however the best area to aim at is people with both wii's and pc's, also hardcore ogre users. I will probably get myself some wii remotes sometime this year.

luckily you can buy just a Wiimote by itself for about US$40!

in other news...

almost ready to release a demo. I will do a bit more testing and tweaking first though.... in the meantime here are some screenshots of the new version :)

new features
* allows using 1 remote + nunchuck OR 2 remotes, either.
* several different "sticks" to fling around... some rigid, some "floppy".
* adjustable gravity
* improved graphics :)
* entire program controlled by the wii remote

Again, this looks simply amazing, Walaber. I'm always a great fan of your somewhat more experimental projects, and this is a good one. Keep it up!

for anyone that is interested in getting a bluetooth adaptor for your PC, check this out:

US$8.00 with free shipping!!! I ordered mine on a Sunday, and it arrived on Thursday. Works perfectly with the Wii remote.

I've ordered 2 of those (one for my desktop, and one for my laptop and on the go), thanks for the link on that btw ;-) Now, all I need is to wait until a WiiMote is available in my area :?

BETA RELEASE

a beta version is up on my website for those with the equipment to run the program... I'd love any feedback I can get... the responsiveness of the controls can still be improved, but in low-gravity mode, it's actually quite playable!
