CRE8

Post by vitefalcon »

Hi Everyone,

We've finally released our 'Haptic' 3D Modeller - CRE8 which uses OGRE as it's graphics rendering engine. It can be downloaded from Novint's website for FREE. We've put a lot of effort into this especially trying to use OGRE meshes to do real-time dynamic deformations. It was fun as well as challenging to start things from scratch and I really owe one to everyone in the OGRE forum esp. Sinbad and the core dev-team for building this wonderful Graphics Engine and those who had helped me throughout to solve my OGRE-related issues :D ... If anyone has tried it please post their comments here... THANKS!!!

Vite Falcon

Edit: Here're some screenshots that I've borrowed from Novint's website...

@Xavyiy: Thank you :D
@Nauk: I hope you get a chance to test it as well although you'll need the Novint Falcon for that :?
@Glajan: Thank you :D
@nikki: Thank you :D ... Our code is 80% platform independent. The trouble is that Novint Falcon do not officially support Linux to date and another API that we use called HaptX is not released for Linux as well :( ... We really would like to extend this to Linux (especially me). But we can only go where the money takes us for now. This is just the effort of 2 programmers (1 full-time[me] and my Tech.Manager, who also has to manage heck lot of other technical stuff and meetings).
@almondeg: Thanks :D ... It does not support UV texture map at the moment. Plans are there to support UV texture map, 3D object painting, sub-division, boolean operations and more. The only trouble is with the funds :( ... we're a small company called Anarkik3D Ltd. and we're trying to raise funds so that we can get a 'prosumer' package out. The GUI we used was CEGUI. We created a new GUI Scheme based on Taharez (work of my Technical Manager ;) ...). But the final GUI artwork was modified by Novint's artists (dunno who :P )

The application is really awesome! I have played around with it for a little bit, and it feels really good. Visual deformation is well done.

How does it cooperate with HaptX? Does it supply you with the geometry for the deformed mesh which is converted to a dynamic Ogre mesh (or maybe you are not allowed to talk about)?

Hi jorrit.... THANKS!!!!...It's great to know someone in OGRE forums has actually tried it out... :D ... BTW, HaptX only does the 'Haptic' side of it i.e., anything to do with touch and interacting with the device. The deformations were coded manually with the help from Reachin (the makers of HaptX). I had to rewrite their code almost entirely because that code did not consider scaling and rotation of the mesh. The Reachin's version of deformation can be obtained from their example programs that comes with HaptX.

Hi All,

I just wanted to update on the latest version of Cre8. For some reason Novint's website has one of the earliest releases of Cre8. Our company is now hosting an alternate link in our website with the latest Cre8 version. go to http://www.anarkikangels.co.uk/cre8.aspx to download the latest version. Thanks :)
