Garshasp

Post by fassihi »

Garshasp is a 3rd person action adventure game based on Persian Mythology. We have been able to provide an initial preview for the game in GamesCom 2009 in Cologne. The previous name for this project was Soshiant.

The technology and libraries we use are:
OGRE
Nvidia PhysX
NxOgre
Hikari
Boost
OpenAL
FreeSL

The game is a work in progress and being polished currently.

OGRE and its community have been very valuable during our development.

Nice, your game was actually playing in the background of a BBC video recently: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/8213272.stm . I thought of Soshiant at the time but because of the name change and levels I didn't recognise I thought it was something else.

Best of luck! I'm all for increased cultural diversity in games beyond the usual split between western (predominantly US) & Japanese styles - I've complained before that it's a shame games representing British culture have receded significantly since I was a kid playing the likes of Everyone's a Wally, and I'm sure there are loads of countries out there with particular slants on gaming that rarely get any air time thanks to the size of the US and Japanese markets. If OGRE can help small studios redress that balance a bit, that's a good thing.

nice to see the project has reached this stage!
lot of potential here, animations are impressive, and if I remember this project has been done with a very small team.
congrats!

The game definitely has progressed well. But if you don't mind I have some critique. I know it's still WIP but I believe content wise it's as good as it gets but I don't believe this is portrayed properly. The game lacks a good characteristic lighting system. Both characters and the environment seem out of place, the lack of shadows can also play a role in this. But I believe a mix of some light and ambient systems might enhance it greatly and even bring it near AAA level, imo the content is already at that level.

@Sinbad: Thanks a lot. OGRE has definitely helped us a lot, we are looking forward to be able to give back to OGRE and the community.
@SpookyBoo: I am terribly sorry to have missed ParticleUniverse from our list, yes we have used ParticleUniverse 1.0, it has been great.
@Broli: your critique is aboslutely right, we have not polished the graphics yet at this stage. This trailer is made with no shadows on and we need to balance and tweak the lights and colors as you said.
Thanks everybody else.

Wow. Really nice stuff!

Couple of questions -
Some of the footage from the trailer had shadows, and some didn't. Is it because the footage was taken from different builds of the game (I noted the work in progress label on some of the vids)
Another question - is the animation ogre based or physX based?

@Noman: yes some footage is from the build with no shadows, we are still working on those features.
All animation is done using the OGRE animation system, we use PhysX character controller for moving the character around. There are two states, one in which the physx controller decides where the character should really be and one where the animation decides the exact position of the character, we switch between these two states.

I love the look of your game.
I can't wait to see what it will look like once you are completely finished.

Oh, your website is also really nice.
It fits well with the screen-shots, haha.
Really dark, but in a good way.

Wow. Looking really amazing!

Any plans on distribution yet? Will it be available via Steam (and what price region are you targeting at)?

Well done indeed. Looking forward to the final product. Kinda has that old-school Diablo feel to it :)

What's the overall gameplay like and are you guys looking into doing multiplayer / online play? Website doesn't have much in the way of gameplay details yet.

The game play is 3rd person action adventure with melee combats where you control the main character, Garshasp.

We are negotiating with publishers right now, release date should be set after that.

Game looks absolutely incredible! Is there any online aspects to it or is it strictly single player? (I hope it is multiplayer or co-op as I cannot stand single player games)
