Ripxx Replay

Post by trnrez » Fri Feb 19, 2010 6:25 pm

We have designed a piece of hardware for recording a persons data while they do a sporting activity. We then take that data and put it back into our software (developed with Ogre of course :P) which will let you playback what you did. I'll let the marketing text give you the jists.
Ripxx Replay is a totally free software application designed to help you relive your sporting experience! It contains realistic models of popular ski resorts in North America that contain each trail and lift as well as the local topography and trees. New resorts are added regularly and we're also about to release a "generic" scene so you can relive your experience from anywhere.

Three replay views are supported; first person, third person (over the shoulder) and helicopter. Ripxx Replay relies on "Animation Sequences" just like video games, to relive your experience. The software interprets the measurements Ripxx makes and renders them as cruising, jumps, spins, flips or any number of other events to provide you with a smooth realistic replay of your experience.

If you want something a bit more hardcore from the measurements, you can generate 2D (x-y) plots of the raw data and you can export the data to Google Earth, or to tabular data for analysis in popular spreadsheet programs.
And of course the screen shots:
View from the lodge of Jackson Hole:

View of the user run with the track colorized by speed. The guy skied at 48 mph

A screen of the playback of the track. Yes he skied through trees at almost 22 mph....I'll stick to the bunny hills.

Brief on UI: The left most panel is all the stats of the run, the middle panel is for playback, right most tells you what is your stats are at that point, and the bottom panel is how the user interacts with the software.

Tech Used: Ogre 1.6.2 (switching to 1.7 as you read), ETM, MOC, Paged Geo, SdkTrays, and Qt

Questions and comments are very welcome.

Thanks,

Very cool. I presume the hardware is a gps type recorder? You should stick an accelerometer in too for gforce data which you could use in the visual part (eg head leaning into hard banking, head bobbing slighty to heavy g's)
You should also look at the RTSS demo because this would look great with a shadowmap

It has a gps chipset, three gyros, and three accelerometers. That way we can get as much data as possible for playing back the run. We are still tweaking a lot of the playback to get it as close to what happened as possible.

But the coolest part is the fact that we are supporting the American Bobsled team with the device! We were featured on discovery because of it http://watch.discoverychannel.ca/daily- ... clip265941.

Thanks for the heads up on the RTSS stuff. I'll give it a whirl and see about incorporating it in to our improvement list.

OK that is too cool -- supporting an Olympic team in part with Ogre? Sweeeet! :)

Yea when my boss came in and told us that we would be supporting them all of our jaws dropped. Been an awesome experience to say the least.

So, in effect, you are helping them identify spots during a run where they could have applied better techniques, more force control, etc? Sounds like it, with all of the accelerometers onboard?

Regardless, definitely cool. :)

That is it in a nutshell.

Thanks for the praise. Always good to have someone tell you they like it.

Totally awesome. I love stuff like this, where you're using 3D tech to enhance and supplement real-world experiences. Congrats!

This going to be a featured project then, Sinbad?
