Preview Particle Universe 1.4

Post by spookyboo »

The upcoming version of Particle Univers (1.4) contains the usual bugfixes, but this release is mainly focussed on the editor. Some requested features were added:

 A Timeslider to see a particle system running in slow motion.
 Realtime editting; change the properties while the particle system runs.
 A TreeControl to categorize the particle systems.
 A basic material editor; create new materials / edit existing ones and immediately see the result.
 A dialog for the Colour Affector (similar to edit gradients in Photoshop)
 A dialog for editting control points, used for properties which value is calculated based on a 'Curve'.

There are more changes (i.e. the scrollwheel actually scrolls the edit window instead of zooming in or out) and overall it becomes more and more a tool for artists (I hope). Schedule for this release is not fixed yet. There are some bugs to solve, but a large part of the work is done.

This is realy impressive!

I don't use particles until today. (I made only a very basic test.)
Now I'm fancy to read more about particles. :D

This looks fantastic. I bought PU ages ago and haven't got round to trying it. Will definitely have to try this out for tyre smoke / dust + sparks. I take it PU will be the correct tool to use for those? I haven't done particles before

All the best,
Ash

The feature list and screenshots I added to the Particle Universe wiki page.
It would be nice if you (spookyboo) complete the feature list.
Interesting could also be a video about PU (e.g. workflow, show some effects)

Congratulations Spooky,

this tool becomes more and more powerful. Even the current version is a big help in dealing with particles, but with these new additions I am looking forward to the release.

Good; now, do you plan to open source it? ;)
I of course prefer my own editing approach, anyway it's good to have diversity in tools, differents approaches, + P.U. has particles plugins, and now this basic material editor. A full featured material editor would be awesome :P
Congratulations for this release Spookyboo.
