Emote Messaging System

Post by Filmakademie »

Hi Ogre Community,

We would like to introduce you to Emote, an animated messaging system designed for communication on mobile devices. By using a combination of text and emotions an individual animated short message can be created and shared with friends worldwide. Here is an example for a Emote message:
http://go.emote.animationsinstitut.de/v ... 6.34131733

The ascii text for this message was:
:)Hello Ogre Community, welcome to Emote*) the animated messaging service x) Use text input and emoticons to crate your own messages((. ~ See you soon, bye bye

The beta test is open to anybody so give it a try: http://emote.animationsinstitut.de

The Emote server backend is developed using the Frapper platform which is build upon the Ogre and QT Libraries.

Our team will be working on performance improvements and an additional character during the next month.

Greetings,
volker & team

This forum section demands screenshots - or embedded video - :)

Great stuff, I'm currently working on a similar concept for "taguing" an agent emotional response in a serious game, but I must say that using "smilleys" to tag is a great idea!
Good choice with Frapper, I saw this framework a while ago, and it let me a very good impression.
By the way, which TTS do you use, emotion restitution seems quite good with it!

Thanks for the video! :D
I really like the stuff you're doing - that you're using Ogre is a huge bonus. :)

Hi Nordev,

we use SVox and are quite happy with the quality. However, the engine does not support any emotional adaptation. It probably feels like it does through the animation :D .
Please send me a link to your serious game project if available.

Yeah, that cow looks funny. And the service itself is pretty fast.
I'm interested in how you do offline rendering. How you do it, do you capture screen perframe and then process results into movie?

This is impressive.
Talking to a computer like it is an actual person. Though especially the speech still needs some
work before it can convincingly fake emotion.
Yet I am amazed by the pace at which technology is moving forward.

Great.

@Altren, we write each image to disk and start the video encoding afterwards.
We also did some test using Cuda H264 encoding. It turned our to be a little bit faster. The performance benefit would probably turn out better in longer sequences at a higher resolution. The disadvantage however was that we had to deal with aliasing artefacts.

Very cool.
We are currently working on intelligent systems and it would be great to use your results to make virtual personages, that makes visual dialog with user.
