Will of Nature

Post by Reloadead »

Hey guys!

After some time developing I am proud to present our project: Will of nature!

This game was/is a school project that has been made during a project day called GameLab where a group of X people work on a game for 2 blocks once a week (approx. 14 days).
In our case, we had a group of 4 programmers and 10 artists and 1 designer (who is actually also an artist). The game and group itself has a bit of a background with some failed prototypes, but in the end with the proper team we made it. :)

In the game you play as a water drop that has to navigate through a level and use the environment to get past obstacles. For example: You can find sticks and place them on smoldering fire to actually create a fire and vaporise into a cloud and rain down on planted seeds to grow plants you can then climb as water. You can also freeze and smash through ice blocks to clear your path.

I can't post the game just yet as they might continue working on it coming blocks, but if I get a go I'll post a link here so you guys can check it out :)

Yes, it is looking really nice, especially for a school project.

Looks great, especially given the timeframe of development. Good idea too.

Very impressive. Your team has a lot of talent to pull that off in only a couple of weeks. Considering what you can do for a school project you should probably consider doing something commercial. At least, that's what I'd be thinking right now.

Well, the college we all attend is a game design college, but not the "look we can make flash games when we're done" college, but an actual college with teachers that have a history with game development and some are still active as freelancers or in free time projects. We actually have separate programs for programmers, visual artists and designers.

We also got a nice selection of work placements, this is what students have been working on so far:

National

Codeglue / Unknown project [Rotterdam, NL]
Eximion / Kalydo engine [Eindhoven, NL]
Guerilla Games / Killzone 3 / Unannounced project / Killzone 4 [Amsterdam, NL]
Nixxes / Deus Ex: Human revolution [Utrecht, NL]
Playlogic Game Factory / Fairytale Fights / Eyepet / Eyepet move [Breda, NL]
RealGames (Zylom Games) / Emily's Childhood Memories [Eindhoven, NL]
Ronimo Games / Swords 'n Soldiers / Awesomenauts [Utrecht, NL]
Sticky Studios / Suckerpunch (web) / Green Lantern (web) / Nickelodeon (Unanounced/ web) [Utrecht, NL]
The Art of Games / Unknown project [Eindhoven, NL]
Triumph Studios / Unannounced project [Delft, NL]
Vanguard Games / Gattling Gears / Unannounced project [Amsterdam, NL]
Vertigo Games / Unknown project [Rotterdam, NL]
VStep / Ship Simulator Extremes [Rotterdam, NL]
W! Games / Unknown project [Amsterdam, NL]

International

DICE / Battlefield 3 [Stockholm, SE]
Ubisoft / Rayman Origins [Montpellier, FR]
Funcom / Anarchy Online [Oslo, NO]
Codemasters / Unknown project [Lower Farm House Stoney Thorpe, UK]
Lionhead / Fable: The Journey [Guildford, UK]
Outso / Unknown project [Nottingham, UK]
GRID-vfx / Unknown project [Gent, BE]

And to top it off, watch this video, sums it all up pretty nicely :) (Not sure if I am allowed to post all this, but if not I'll take it away :))

Now that's a school I would probably not hate. Too bad I've already wasted my youth in a crap college in Backwardistan. I'll go sit in the corner and weep now.

Excellent! I would recommend to shape platforms to more smooth roundy forms.

I wouldn't blame my university (http://www.kai.ru/), it is very good, and IGAD would be I nice addition to my education, but I have no money for that :)
