I'm waiting for some feedback, specially from ATI users, since I've only two computers for testing!

Btw, SkyX 0.2 is going to be released along this week =)

Try to install the VC++ 2005 redistributables: http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/de ... px?id=3387
Hope that will solve the problem!

I tried that, but it seems like Windows 7 doesn't like VC++ 2005 and is still reporting the same error, can you please compile it in VS10 or VS8? As I, and most of the people here are developing on those and probably have them installed.

I'm going to try it later on my laptop, as my desktop setup didn't seem to like the compiler. :D

Also, my laptop has an ATI 5560 so if it works I can give you some feedback. :)

Maybe that's the wrong vcredist_x86.exe
There are several other updated ones:
http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/de ... px?id=5638
http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/de ... x?id=14431

Or, the safest bet if for Xavyiy to include the vcredist_x86.exe from his visual studio installation along with the files.
On my computer, this file is here:
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 8\SDK\v2.0\BootStrapper\Packages\vcredist_x86
(Assuming you're using a 32-bit system.)

Note that this vcredist_x86.exe file is occasionally updated through microsoft security updates. So whenever you distribute a new build, make sure you check to ensure you're using the latest vcredist_x86.exe, matching what you compiled your libs and exes with.

Hi all!

@JabberwockyUnfortunately I'm using the Express version which doesn't include the vcredist_x86.exe in C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 8\SDK\v2.0\BootStrapper\Packages\vcredist_x86 :/

@All
At this moment I haven't much time so I only can suggest you installing this one http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/de ... px?id=5638 , if it still doesn't work I'll look for the correct vcredist_x86.exe tonight with more time :) !

All fine here: Win7 x64 + Intel + NVidia

(1000 FPS at night, 400 on thunderstorm)

@Xavyiy: The stars look a bit weird / dull.

Well, my PC/OS is kinda messed up then, I think I installed it (it just showed up, filled some progress bars and quit automatically), I'm going to try again now, or the only option will be to wait for the source :D

UPDATE: I just removed every instance of VC++ 2005 Redist I could find in my control panel, and tried installing that again, but I still got the same results...
Well... Waiting for the source or a new build :D

Well, seems that my VC++ has been updated (automatically, through security windows updates) recently and due to this a build of the Paradise Editor(which was a little old build, but not older than 1 month) runs fine with the redistributables from the link I've posted before. But the SkyX 0.2 demo seems not to work!

I've been looking into the problem a little more, and a fast look to the demo .exe manifiest file shows me that the 8.0.50727.6195 version of Microsoft.VC80.CRT was used.

Here is the redistributable version which exactly installs the 8.0.50727.6195 version: (you can see that in the additional info section in the following microsoft download page)
http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/de ... x?id=26347

Hope that will finally work! =)

@spacegaier
Yes, stars in SkyX are not very good since I'm just using a simpe texture to render them.
In a future, I want to write an advanced starfield system for SkyX, maybe with shooting stars support, but that will have to wait for the 0.5 version =)

Thanks, Xavier, that fixed the problem. It looks really good for now, but the clouds give out the feeling that they're really low, and not that sky-ish feeling.

On my PC, it ran 20-40 FPS on the cloud-heavy presets, and 100+ on the night and sunset presets, frame rates are nearly the same as with the previous version, but it looks much better.

I ran it full screen 1920x1080, 2x Anti-Alising, and my system: Windows 7 x64, Intel Q8400 2.66, NVIDIA GeForce 9500 1GB.

Yes it worked !

preset 1 : Arround 300fps
preset 2 : Arround 1500fps
preset 3 : Arround 300fps
preset 4 : Arround 1000fps (my favorite preset :))
preset 5 : Arround 900fps

Win7 64bits, 6GO ram Nvidia 460GTX 1GO, C2D 2.66 GHZ
1440X900 full screen FSAA 8

and yes the stars looks a little weird, maybe there is too much + the color of the sky that is not very accurate ... hmmm i willl say that it can be darker (maybe i don't know)

please add a terrain to the demo with some fog effect, to complete the outdoor scene

anyway great work, congratulation !

Hi all!
Today I've been working on the SkyX 2.0 demos and now them all are finished and availables for download! =)

There are 3 official Demos included with SkyX 0.2:
  • Demo1: Terrain integration (Night looks really cool here, also you can play with the moon phase!)
  • Demo2: SkyX presets
  • Demo3: Multi-camera
The download link is available at: http://www.paradise-studios.net/downloads/hydrax_skyx/
Note: If you are experimenting problems to run the demos, install this VC++ 2005 redistributabe: http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/de ... x?id=26347

SkyX 0.2 and demos sources are going to be released along this week so at the end of the weekend you all are going to be able to play with it! :P

------------------------------

@Mind Calamity
Great to know you've been able to test it! =)
Yes, the clouds were a little low in the demo, I've set them a little more high in the new demo. Also, the lack of world geometry(terrain, buildings, trees...) leads to lost the spatial reference, with world geometry it looks really good =)

@amigoface
Hi! Great framerates =)
About the stars, as I've said before I'll work on it in SkyX 0.5 =)
About including terrain and fog, I've done that in separate demos since I think the goal of the included sample projects are to show the user how to use each part of SkyX instead of making big demos which sources may lost new users.

hi Xavyiy,

while i agree with the idea about new users (like me :D ), i think that the goal of a demo is to demonstrate the integration of your library or any other , in real wold scenerio

imho

anyway great work again !

Well, I'm glad to see that you're doing some very nice job !
1st demo gave me 300fps in 1920*1080
It just go down to 300 if I use the thunderstorm preset.

But anyway, I have a request that seems important to me : try to tweak the sunset color to something more red.
Image

Actually I don't know how much work it needs. We can't even talk about a functionality. What do you think ?

@sniper binaire:
You can allready do that in skyx 0.1, tweaking the mie values.

@Xavyiy:
Demos are ok, tested on a GTX8800 and a quadro, with opengl and directx9 both.

Hi all!
Finally, SkyX 0.2 is out!
Download links are available at: http://www.paradise-studios.net/downloads/hydrax_skyx/

Unfortunately, due to some incompatibilities of the CMake building system with my Paradise Engine Framework backup system and building environment and the fact that I don't want to pospone the release date, CMake is not officially supported in SkyX 0.2.

Btw, some little but important compiling notes are included in Readme.txt.

Note to community users: feel free to create the needed CMake files which can be uncompressed over the official SkyX 0.2 package directory tree and I'll happily add them in the official web-site. Also, feel free to do the same for specific IDEs, I'll happily add a download link in the official website with the project files =)

@Sniper Binaire
Hi!
SkyX uses a physically-based atmospheric scattering model(based on O'Neill work published at GPUGems 2 which is also based on the original work from Nishita) which can achieve a wide range of sky configurations (but, of course, not all since it's a simplication of the reality).
There're a lot of parameters that can be changed in order to get different atmospheres, have a look to SkyX::AtmosphereManager::Options. But the most important parameters in order to a red sunset are the mie multiplier, as Nodrev has pointed, and the RGB wavelength values.
Have a look to the Desert preset of the SkyX 0.2 demo 2, which is a orange/red sunset.

Hi Xavyiy,

thanks a lot for releasing the SkyX 0.2 version. Great work you are doing.
Xavyiy wrote: Note to community users: feel free to create the needed CMake files which can be uncompressed over the official SkyX 0.2 package directory tree and I'll happily add them in the official web-site.
It is a bit a pity that you couldn't consider exsting CMake solutions that were alredy existing for the pre-0.2 release as a copy-over zip-archive. However as long as you only included new files to the project these might be easily adjusted. Or is there anything special you changed for the 0.2 build process in SkyX 0.2?

Thanks again and keep up the great work.
