END EDIT

A couple of friends and I are developping this game called Vitrum.
We're just starting our indie game company, 9heads, and we are working really hard to get noticed and spread the news about Vitrum.
We'll release Vitrum and work on our level editor in order to release it too, so people will be able to create their own stages and share them on the web.

Vitrum is a 3D, first person, puzzle/platform game.

The main character is an android designed to convert energy from crystals into powers. The android can absorb energy in each of his hands, allowing him to combine different powers. One of the coolest powers is the ability to invert the gravity, because it's 3d and because the player can freely choose when and where to use it!

Vitrum takes place in a desert laboratory full of different colored crystals. Some crystals grant powers, others are harmful to the android.

The player will have to figure out how to use the crystals, solve the puzzles and finish each stage in Vitrum.

Features:
- Each crystal color represents a power, explore each color and discover every power the android can execute.
- Combine powers to solve more difficult puzzles.
- Explore 3D gravity inversion, materialization of crystal platforms, super high jumps and other powers.
- Avoid radioactive crystals, death crystals and others.
- Collect crystal shards to unlock Insane stages.
- More than 45 stages.

We already released a demo, so you guys can download it and give it a try! =)
http://www.9heads.com/games/vitrum

Our engine uses Ogre, Bullet Physics and only free/open-source libraries.

Vitrum is on Steam Greenlight, we'd appreciate if you helped us get accepted.

Wow, you guys have done a great job on this. I watched the video and it looked nice. Are you using 'Gorilla' for those tutorial/hint screens throughout the game?

Thanks for your feedbacks!

We're using a holographic screen shader we developed on those tutorial screens. We just need to create a simple image file (colored text over a white, semitransparent background) and the shader animates it as a holographic screen! =)

Oh wow... I love the look and feel of your game. One thing bothers me, though - the ceilings seem too low (IMO). Otherwise, great job so far! How long have you guys been working on this ?

Looks great and seems like a cool gameplay idea. Definitely something I would like to play :)

I wanted to try it but it doesn't start with wine:

Code: Select all

wine: Call from 0x7b82c872 to unimplemented function msvcp90.dll.??0?$basic_stringstream@DU?$char_traits@D@std@@V?$allocator@D@2@@std@@QAE@H@Z, aborting
err:module:attach_process_dlls "OgreMain.dll" failed to initialize, aborting
err:module:LdrInitializeThunk Main exe initialization for L"Z:\\Users\\martinpreisler\\Downloads\\Vitrum Demo\\Vitrum Demo 1.131.exe" failed, status 80000100
Will try this later on when I get to a machine that has Windows.

btw, the zip demo folder seems to contain a lot of libraries that aren't used. It could use some cleaning. Also, don't forget about this clause in the MIT license:

Code: Select all

The above copyright notice and this permission notice shall be included in all copies or substantial portions of the Software.

Mind Calamity, we started working on Vitrum in February (actually it was on December 2011, but in February we trashed every assets we had and started it all over again).

kulik, Vitrum will run on Windows (Windows 7 recommended), also, every library in Vitrum's folder is used, and all the licensing docs we need are included in the Docs folder. If you spot any other problem, please, let us know so we can correct it.

Thanks guys!

Played the demo, it's cool, kudos! The lights seem to somewhat flicker as I move, are you aware of that problem?

Regarding attribution:
You are right, I missed that folder. MyGUI and CEGUI aren't attributed though. CEGUI folder has every dependency attribution except CEGUI itself.

Examples of things that aren't used and are bundled (there are definitely more than these):

Code: Select all

OgrePaging.dll
OgreProperty.dll
CEGUINullRenderer.dll
CEGUIOpenGLRenderer.dll
CEGUIDirect3D{9,10,11}Renderer.dll
3 of the 4 CEGUI image codecs (I won't bother finding which one)

I couldn't find an option to invert mouse so I played it only briefly, but it is looking good in my opinion.

Please don't take this the wrong way, despite looking like a licensing pedant I am actually trying to help :-) The CEGUI COPYING file is still wrong.

It is important to retain the copyright notices.

Having:

Code: Select all

The MIT License (MIT)
Copyright (c) <year> <copyright holders>
Is not appropriate. That's why the license states:

Code: Select all

The above copyright notice and this permission notice shall be included in all copies or substantial portions of the Software.
This is the copyright line of the COPYING file:

Code: Select all

Copyright (c) 2004 - 2012 Paul D Turner & The CEGUI Development Team
The entire COPYING file can be found in doc/COPYING in reasonably recent CEGUI releases.

The OIS COPYING file is also wrong, it states zlib/gzip authors as copyright holders of OIS which isn't the case!

kulik, thank you very much for letting us know about those mistakes, we believe now all the licenses are correct!
This is our first time releasing a game, we never did this before, so I guess we found ourselves a little bit lost on how to gather all the licenses we need.
Thanks again, without your heads-up we would have done things the wrong way.

Great idea for a game. It has a very portal-like feel to it, but is original enough to stand on its own.
It probably needs some extra gameplay elements to allow for more interesting puzzles, and enemies perhaps, but I really like it already.

Maybe it's better to only show the broken glass when dying from falls or similar. It's rather strange how the glass of the camera breaks when you die from radiation poisoning.

To me, that's more obvious effect because it feels like the glass of the helmet has broken down or rather the head exploded from within the helmet (that needs to be rather bloody)

Very awesome looking game, I love the look of it. Definitely looking forward to trying it out once I get my Win7 machine hooked up. :D

Is there any chance of a Linux and/or OSX release? :D

We plan on releasing Linux and OSX versions, but not for now. At the moment we're working full time on our level editor, we plan on releasing it, so people will be able to create their own levels and share them on the web. :D
