Void Destroyer is now on Steam's Early Access!

Post by chaosavy »

Here's the latest video - a cinematic trailer for Steam's Early Access:

Its been a long road, Ogre made it so much easier, might not have made it this far without it and the community.

Also a big thanks to Xavi who helped out with a lot of finishing effects, the toon/cel/outline shader, the "speed effect", the glow in tactical mode, the "general glow", the "hit ripples" effect, and I'm probably forgetting one or two. This was thanks to a few of you who backed the project on Kickstarter allowing me to hire Xavi to do some work in a very short amount of time while I continued coding away at the game engine/logic/etc.

There's another trailer, a bunch more screen shots and info on the store page: http://store.steampowered.com/app/259660

I don't think I've seen a space game that uses that effect.

I rewatched that youtube clip just to pay more attention to how it made things look. I think I understand why you do it; to make a dark ship's silouette stand out from the star field background? It works well for that anyway (at 2:18 there's a good demo). It feels odd seeing this now after watching many of your previous iteration videos where my impression of it was more gritty, and less toony. I think it's better though, makes the objects seem more discrete and important, like you should care about them more, I dunno how to explain it well :(

The graphics made me thing of beneath a steel sky.

Congratulations! I loved the game mechanics. The graphics also looks great. Even though I don't agree with the concept of early access, I'll buy it as soon as I adjust my little student budget :) I also wonder if developers on Steam get any stats related to how many user added their game to Wish List for self-evaluation.

I feel intense pressure to buy every Ogre-powered game as the moment it appears online anyway :D

Congratulations Paul!

It's been a pleasure to work with you on these effects, and it's been a really great surprise when I tested them all together yesterday, the complete composition of gameplay, motion, particles and effects is really great!

Wish the best for you and Void Destroyer!

Looks awesome, and congrats on the Steam Early Access. Great job!

I like the toon/outline effect, I've just starting using the same style in my own game. Your graphics look even better now with the effect.

thanks guys - I learned a few valuable lessons... always have a launch screen with options... life would be easier, plus I keep offering up bandaids via editing the ogre.cfg file.

Looks damn cool!

The steam forum seems to be liking it too, and they can be very critical, especially for early access games after being burnt on recent ones. :)

Slick video. Great move working with Xavyiy on those effects - the man obviously knows a thing or two about fancy graphics work. :)
