Upcoming Wild west shooter powered by OGRE.
Hi! we will soon introduce our game to the world.
Game engine and assets developed by our team at 9heads.
We've come a long way from where we began and still a lot to do.

i love westrens, i remember i enjoyed playing this one https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IrMk9RyCWKI (-:
which brings me to the really interesting question...what type of game is it?
is it a quest/puzzle or do i need to order an occulus device and start practicing my draw'in skills?

Looks stunning! Keep it up!
You guys were a pain in the butt because of highlighting issues with the engine and I'm really glad you pointed them out. It's working out

Thanks for your reply!
We actually have lots of people already , need to place them in the world...
But here is the main character!
Basically... game is a survival multiplayer FPS. You can craft your gear, weapons and other things to fight against nature and man (other players and NPC's) to survive.
Sometimes you need a group of friends to defeat bosses like "la peste" a giant sand worm (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0100814/ ????). Fight to be the sheriff, or the most wanted.
There are a HUGE number of random generated weapons, and some unique.
One neat thing is that you can host and manage your own server!
I have a blast reading the commentsfrostbyte wrote: i love westrens, i remember i enjoyed playing this one https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IrMk9RyCWKI (-:
CLOUDS!!!!
Why its so hard to render clouds!!
We have a dynamic day night cycle, so we need some kind of cloud that can interact with the sun light. We tried a volumetric approach but it was too expensive to run.
Still need to figure it out a way to render them nicely and "cheap".

Your effort with OGRE is remarkable and we truly appreciate it.
We still have a lot of work to do, so don't expect us to leave any time soon.

Re: Upcoming Wild west shooter powered by OGRE.
great, now i like it even better (-:
game idea sounds like a sure steam's early-access top 10...
tough looking dude...shadows look very good...
its interesting that in such an illuminated enviroment( desert ) shadows look very dramatic and have a strong impact on the games atmosphere
i can imagine beautiful desert sunset/sunrise empowering your game which brings us to the painful topic of CLOUDS...
apparently CLOUDS are a topic of their own, thousands of man-years invested in research and still...but hardware is almost there...
best looking open-source clouds i found is here...https://www.panda3d.org/forums/viewtopi ... 40#p106215
think its voxel based clouds but i don't think they come cheap either...
as i understand you don't really need inside/above clouds rendering, right?
if so, i guess searching for only a "below clouds" solution can make it somehow easier on you...
interesting article... http://advances.realtimerendering.com/s ... 20ARTR.pdf
anyway , next time, be nice to see some moving/dancing/singing stuff... old west style (-:
have fun...

Re: Upcoming Wild west shooter powered by OGRE.
We modified some things, like rendering sorting, PBS shader, skeleton system, animation system, post processing...Thyrion wrote:wow. awesome!

I learned that OGRE is really good out of the box for some projects, and not so for others. In our case, we have more than 500 PBS materials, more than 800 textures, and hundreds of meshes. Its a lot of stuff, and since OGRE doesn't have asset streaming, all this stuff gets loaded even if its not being used. So we still need to figure out how to solve this problem.
Ohhh we do have one! And some guns too!Thyrion wrote: And where is the saloon??
And a sunset...

It looks superb! Kudos. I like your setting on a survival game, interesting take.
And please tell me there won't be zombies! Or just a few.. I'd prefer none.

Zombies in a current game title translate to me as "We have neither creativity nor imagination so we just filled the void with zombies."frostbyte wrote:hilarious, i had the same passing thought..."hope they won't derail to zombies..."

Whoa!!! That looks amazing!!! Great work!!
(there is of course details like a missing effect when digging with the shovel or some decal on the tree after it gets cut, but still it is amazing!)

Yeah, there is a lot of things that need polish, particles when cutting trees, decals, need to fix ragdols, clouds....CLOUDS.
But we believe it good enough for a alpha version.

Re: Upcoming Wild west shooter powered by OGRE.
Wow, that's indeed already looking really good, considering the polish (particles, etc.) is still missing.
The only thing I did not like (matter of personal preference) is the [spoiler_safe_mode] "thing" [/spoiler_safe_mode] at the end. Don't personally like those real-world / fantasy cross-overs.

Re: Upcoming Wild west shooter powered by OGRE.
nice trailer....how did you do the dust in the last scene? any code contibution to ogre is welcomed... (-:
on other topic: the music does no good to the scene( cyberpunk? )...imho its horrible regardlesss( sorry mr composer... )
i would suggest maybe aiming for more acustic country music in order to create an authentic wildwest atmosphere, no music is also good sometimes( as long as you have other sound like nature, voices etc... )
music is a bit of underestimated aspect in creating games atmosphere and manipulating players feeling
so i humbly suggest that you give the soundtrack some more respect and attention...

You mean the dust from the worm ? Its just unlit particles, very, very simple. We use the old particle system.frostbyte wrote:nice trailer....how did you do the dust in the last scene? any code contibution to ogre is welcomed... (-:
About the music.
None of the audio tracks we have is final, we are still in contact with a professional audio studio in order to develop good audio tracks. But thanks for the feedback.
