Chess

Post by KingPrawnVindaloo »

Just a quick first post; putting together a little chess game, thought you might like a screenshot.

clicky clicky:

Progress -

AI - done - different difficulty levels - currently plays itself.
Front End - done
Pieces / Board - first draft done
Hand animations - nearly done - some are a bit rough

Just need tie in the player controls and hand animations to picking up the pieces etc and then you can test. More as it happens!

Ogre r0x0r! ahem.

The stones don't look like drafts at all.

Not yet - doing that today. Just finished exporting the animations into a little test program and now I'm tying them into the main app.

Will post updates as and when..

Sorry - how rude - thanks for all your comments. It'll be nice to give something back to the community - source, models etc will all be released when it's done, for other noobies like me to pick apart and laugh at.

Update - Got the first animation routines in:

Needs a bit of tweaking, but pretty pleased with it so far - pretty slow progress - learning everything for the first time. Really impressed with Ogre though.

Eugen: I was thinking of a derogatory hand gesture for the loser as often seen on the football terraces :P

looks really impressive so far!! the fact that you got the computer AI working before the player input is rare :D

look forward to trying it out!

Nice, I am starting to use ogre as well for a chess game, which I must make for my education.
Which kind of AI-algoritme are you using? I think I must use MIN-MAX for it, but maybe it is better to use some other one?

I didn't know too much about chess AI - there's a good series of articles on gamedev:

http://www.gamedev.net/reference/progra ... es/chess1/

In the last article in the series, there's a downloadable source code (in Java).

I can't take any credit for the AI in my game - I converted it from that original java source and the author will rightfully get the credit.
