Chess update (new screenshot)

Post by KingPrawnVindaloo »

For your pleasure -

Image

Fully animated and reflected etc.

Just gotta finish off the user input, put a front end on it and test test test.

Thanks to everyone who's helped out and kudos to Sinbad!

Enjoy!

Yeah, that looks really nice! :)

Did you ever see Geri's Game? Really cool short film by Pixar; your hand animation reminds me of that.

i had saw the movie :) old times, i think 94 or close, but it looked great for those times... Pixar had to start from somewhere to get where they are today!

...this hand reminds me of the god hand from Back and White!:)

Yeah - I've got that short - it's on the Bug's life DVD. Haven't seen it for a while, but I loved it.

In action, it does look a bit like the hand from black and white - I was aiming for a Jimmy White's Snooker from back in the day.

@Sinbad - I've contacted Mr Sheen. They're sponsoring development from here on in. I've sold out to the man! :P

Looking good!. You could fake the reflections in the same way that GTA3 does reflections in puddles. They mirror the geometry underneath the ground and make the puddles transparent rather than reflective. Same result, just a much lower over head. You can obviously have lower resolution meshes underneath too save a little more too..

fantastico.

fantastico, the problem with your method is that then you have to deal with stencil buffers, and transforming every object in the scene so it's mirrored. I stick to the RTT approach for this too ;)

hmm.. but this could be done just once at the start of the scene for every object since they are almost always static. Sacrificing perhaps performance on the beggining(which could be on a loading screen, so no harm done) instead of on the normal game loop.

Update: I'm rapidly approaching an alpha release in the next few days. Once it's done, I'll release the binaries. Then, I'll leave it for a few days, come back, tidy it up and release the source/assets.

Thing is, I've just left my last job which was taking care of my hosting and they've blocked access.

Still; meh - not too bothered.

Anyone got any recommendations for good free hosting (UK preferably). I don't intend to have a site there, just a place to stick some files for sharing.

Anyone?

Why exactly would this approach be faster than RTT though? In both cases, you need to render the geometry twice.

For Vetrex's response: it depends on the size of the file, 500MB of bandwidth if he has a 50 MB file obviously won't last long

I'm searching for a free server which supports PHP and MySQL. It should have 50MB harddisk and 500MB traffic. There only should be pop up commercials.

Just checked that Lima-city one... it doesn't allow any downloads. They don't state it that explicitly but they are banning all types of archive files, which makes it pretty useless for someone hosting a site in order to distribute a game.

Well, he said that he didn't want a website, just a place to stick some files for sharing. Basically, all he could use it for is a gallery, since pictures are allowed, of course.
Anyways, just thought I'd mention it, for all those people whose German is not good enough to get any dependable information from the FAQs.
