The compo is going more in the "Make a game from the original idea of a vaporware" kind of compo now.

Although 3DR has thrown around legal threats in the past when fans have tried to put Duke into other game engines.
Not that they're in much of a position right now to threaten people, but if somebody else gets the license...

Unless we start discussing Ogre, in which case we should be in a non offtopic board.
:)

To get the on topic back off topic, or whatever, apparently 3D Realms aren't dead. They fired all the DNF team, but the company remains.
From 3DR themselves:
While 3DR is a much smaller studio now, we will continue to operate as a company and continue to license and co-create games based upon the Duke Nukem franchise.
Hmm, co-create? I wonder if that means DNF has been given to another dev team (like happened to Prey).

I am very confused:

:)

I agree wholly with one of the posters:
it would be a game worth playing in this sea of "Realistic-Crap" of games that we're currently getting.

A sea of "realistic crap" games?

My standards of realism must be rather high then, because there's been very little in the way of realistic gaming around. DCS Black Shark months ago and Armed Assault 2 next month is about it.

Maybe it's more about the realistic thematics. If you focus on FPS, there is a lot of real war related games. But if you dig a bit you can find some FPS with totally different universe (like Zeno Clash....if you call it Fps).

Anyway most gamers don't digg at all. They know what marketing people throw at their face first.

I'm not sure how to classify Zeno Clash (it's first person and has guns, but it's not really an fps, more like first person mortal kombat in a drug induced hallucination), except as one of the best games I've bought recently. And today ACE Team announced they are making a sequel!
And Ghat has a cooler voice than Duke. :)

They don't make games like Dungeon Keeper, or Duke Nukem any more.
It's just too risky.

Overlord is in the tradition of Dungeon Keeper, and it's got a sequel on the way.

Haha, Kojack: Just because you decided to disagree with just about everything I say, doesn't mean that we are seeing a wave of innovative games with great gameplay and personality.

True, there's not that many innovative games with great gameplay and personality around. Zeno Clash has all those though. :)

The new Zeno Clash trailer for those who have no idea what I'm talking about.

Overlord 2 looks very cool. A true Dungeon Keeper 3 would be great, but until then roaming the country with an army of minions slaughtering the good guys and enslaving everyone will have to do.

Let's hope Thief 4 and Deus Ex 3 live up to their heritage.

Oh, and while I'm way off topic, more games need to have music videos!

Ouh yeah.

Indie games are love. :D

By the way, Squaresoft now have his Dungeon keeper - with tower-defense-like gameplay : http://www.gametrailers.com/video/japan ... tasy/48755

And Dungeon Party( http://www.gametrailers.com/video/meet- ... arty/46857 ) seems a bit like another way to do it.

Realistic crap? Like Mirror's Edge, Bioshock, FEAR, Fallout3...

And now that you talk about Dungeon Keeper... Not that game (nor HiOctane or Theme Hospital), but Molineux has stated his wish to make a Bullfrog's Syndicate Wars remake. I'm more excited about this than DNF, to be honest :D

I hope so too! (although the THI4F logo is a bit of a worry)

I found this Penny Arcade comic, where the guys are wondering when this game might show, but it was from 1999!! I can't believe it was nearly 10 years ago, I feel very old. I think a huge amount of kids, even on these boards wont have a clue who Duke is.

P.S. A remake of Duke in Ogre would be ace.
