Maybe read that before getting too much "inspiration": https://www.cryengine.com/ce-terms

(even if one of the first things they say is that they can change the terms at any point in time and this will apply to everyone within 30 days, so basically it means you'll never know when and how you'll get screwed by their license ;) )

i wrote "insperation" since code rewritten for ogre would look and act very differently...
mmm but the result would still look very similar...
i just want the volume clouds...they look so nice and said to be very light on resources...
frankly, i dont realy know anything about this legal stuff....any laywer's around? (-:

Edit: ok i see here that its probably a "no go" for being "inspired"... )-:

xavi if you hear us...please MIT SkyX so we can have more motivation to port it to ogre2.1 and continue on improving it... (-:

I offered $$$ and he got my message and didn't respond. I replaced it with more basic code and no one has said anything among my playtesters  There isn't much there if you are dedicated to rewriting it ... you can easily find a mie / rayleigh implementation using google

Boo to this CE license haha

Hmm, yeah, that license is interesting. You are not allowed to use Cryengine for simulations, science, architecture or serious games (or porn, gambling or military use). Although teachers and students can make serious games, but are prohibited from selling them.

thanks for the mie / rayleigh tip...i'll look into it...
yeah, i guess xavi got tired of re-explaining/moved on with his life...( google search of "SkyX mit" yield about 34 results )
any way skyX has some bugs that hav'nt been resolved http://www.ogre3d.org/forums/viewtopic. ... 25#p369089
being lgpl+bugs+unoptimizied = look for other MIT long-term solutions( for ogre2.1) http://www.ogre3d.org/forums/viewtopic. ... 8&p=526021
never the less SkyX/hydrax still looks pretty good compared to almost any other solution i've seen and runs on old desktop hardware( perfect fit for ogre1.x )

now about CryEngine - it feels like someone( unreal? ) held a gun to their head and forced them to release the source code
the licence is weird and awkward, i kind of get the feeling that they will get some flames over it and pull back from the "we can change it any time we like" statment, since i don't see how anyone with a clear mind would invest in CryEngine to develop a game under this ridiculous conditions
also not sure about the legality/morality of such a licence...

possible new CryEngine licence change:
we at cryEngine demand that you hand us your first borns and start worshipping our....and so on...
this licence will be effective within 30 days, if you don't like it... (-:

Edit: oh... it's already started...
funny discussion over here https://www.reddit.com/r/gaming/comment ... lable_for/

no gamling, pornogrophy or science... that make sense( if you're amish (-: )

Gambling make sense. Gambling is ALWAYS singled out for separate licensing. For example, I know Unity licenses separate for that. Also Crytek has always had a separate license for "serious games", so that somewhat makes sense. IIRC they issue licenses to the US Military for various sims. I assume they want to lock you into to something that costs a lot more and puts you on a premium support track. Porn is just funny ... maybe they don't wan't the "powered by CryEngine" screen followed by a bunch of naked people doing what needs to be done  Crytek has always been weird about how they license their stuff ... like they are God's gift to middleware and need to protect their brand or something.

This phrase just inspired me.

Is CryEngine's trap similar as the Unreal's trap (license)?

IMHO worse... unreal licence goes down to details on what they give and what they expect in return( down to business=5% )
CryEngine licence on the other hand is very obscured i don't know if this is deliberate or not but anyway when you agree to a licence its better to understand what you agreed for...
