Meshes take more vertex count in Ogre ?

Post by ahmadi »

Hi
I have a simplest box in 3dsmax with single material,it have 8 vertices but after loading it in Ogre, Ogre show me 24 vertex count in mesh vertexData->vertexCount!
How it can happen?
is Ogre spliting the mesh into polygons and then render it?
if yes, how can i achieve my original 8 vertices?

Thank you for any help.

Yes, 4 vertices per cube face, 6 sides == 24 vertices.
Each vertex can only have one normal. When you only use 8 vertices, which face direction should the normal represent?
This has nothing to do with Ogre but with how 3d realtime graphics works. You can put all faces into the same smoothing group or however it is called in your modelling tool. But then the result in Ogre won't look like a cube but more like a very coarse sphere due to lighting.

I very tried to do that with 3DSMax, After changing "smoothing group" and "normals" i just success to export the 8 vertices box to ogre with 20 vertices!
Can you help me more that how can i export a 8 vertices box from 3DSMax to Ogre without any change and with 8 vertices?
Appearance of the box is not important, because i don't want to render it ;) Im not success to understant what do you mean really about vertices normal? because i don't need normals i just need position of vertices.

Thank you for your helps.

Why wouldn't you just manually define the object instead then?

Because it was two years ago? :)

maybe Skatt has a time machine, and went back into the past, read this post, thought of the good response. Then returned, remmember that he forgot to reply, then replied, however making the critical mistake of replying in the present (reletive to me typing right now)

Lol, sorry. I didn't really pay attention to how old the post was. I was actually wondering if manually defining the object would be the best option here though.
