new CEGUI?

Post by darknessw »

I downloaded the latest CEGUI version and compiled it with ogre.
The problem is this tutorial: http://www.ogre3d.org/wiki/index.php/Basic_Tutorial_7 isn't working anymore, I mean, even the header have changed from OgreCEGUIRenderer to this:
#include <CEGUI/RendererModules/Ogre/CEGUIOgreRenderer.h>
So do some Namespaces and Methods like this:
CEGUI::OgreRenderer(...)
and this doesn't even exist anymore:
CEGUI::SchemeManager::getSingleton().loadScheme(...)

Is there any [recent] tutorial/example that works with this new CEGUI and Ogre versions?
Thanks!

Forget all about that old Ogre3D CEGUI sample program. It's old, won't work with the newest CEGUI, and will never be updated (that sample has been dropped in future versions of Ogre, 1.7+).

Instead, all the samples and code you need come directly from the CEGUI download. That will get you set up on how to run the latest CEGUI code with Ogre3D. You should look to the cegui website on how to do this, and post on the cegui forums if you have problems.

It will be updated eventually.

Here's a guide to [s]use[/s] build the newest CEGUI with Ogre:
http://www.ogre3d.org/wiki/index.php/Building_CEGUI
/* Less noise. More signal. */
Ogitor Scenebuilder - powered by Ogre, presented by Qt, fueled by Passion.
OgreAddons - the Ogre code suppository.

Cool, I'm happy to be wrong about that!

If CEGUI isn't a dependency anymore, does it mean CEGUI isn't good?
Some crazy guys got Ogre3D running with Qt (using its widgets), is it better to have a "real" widget working instead of those from CEGUI (I'm talking about performance, ease and customization)?

CEGUI has never been better! :)
0.7 is an awesome release.
Actually, we didn't want to switch, but Omnitor invented his own demo framework tray system, specifically for the demos, thus reinventing some wheels.
We were against the idea, but after seeing it in action, we liked those wheels. :)

If you want a powerful GUI, use CEGUI. I don't think you can find a more able GUI. It does have a price, of course: increased complexity.
