Blender --> Ogre3D --> Android ?

Post by Pages » Thu Feb 24, 2011 7:46 pm

Hi , first off thank you for taking the time to read this

I'm currently trying to do a project for displaying animations on the Android OS using Blender as my choice of animation software.
Now I've come here looking help in the form of confirmation and guidance more so than coding help or errors help.

I've started by creating the desired animations in blender and they are saved as a .blend file .If I wanted to be able to export them into Android OS would this be the correct set of steps to take ?
  • Download http://www.ogre3d.org/tikiwiki/Blender+Exporter ( if im being honest even from the link provided im not sure which files to download)
Use the exporter in Blender ( i use 2.56a , i presume ill have to downgrade to 2.49 for this exporter to work ?)
With the files exported somehow import them into my application using Eclipse as my choice IDE
I'm sorry if this seems like a retarded post , but i have never been so far out of my depth before and there's a lack of information available on how to do this.
Any advice you can offer me on how i should go about completing this project would be extremely helpful

Thanks,

You could try this exporter for blender 2.5. haven't tried it myself though

I can't see where the relation between your animation to Android and Ogre3D ? Do you want to render it in realtime in an application ? There's a "Port Ogre to Android" topic on this forum (can't remember which), which describes some of the steps to run Ogre on Android. But you'll need some Tegra powered devices because atm it's heavy.
Other than that, if it's just to pre-render an animation and set it as boot animation or whatever, why don't you render it directly in Blender? :)

First off thank you for the replies ,
For my project idea i first imagined the end product looking something similiar to this

to achieve this i was told i needed to use jPCT-AE and within that i would want to use Bones the guy also said
Bones can import Collada and OgreXML animations.
i would suggest 3ds Max and OgreMax plugin. some users also used Blender and Ogre exporter for it.

So i'm now at the stage of having my animations done ( like the ninja ones above) but no idea how to get the .blend files into a OgreXML animation

Sorry if i'm unclear on anything but if you need more information please feel free to ask
Thanks for taking to time to help as well .Truly appreciated

Ah, I see what you mean. I don't know how my artists actually do it, but I'm sure you'll find tons of informations in the "Artists & Content Creators" forum, and Blender page in the Ogre3D Wiki.
