Unloading highest-level textures automatically

Post by jonim8or » Mon Dec 19, 2011 5:25 pm

I was thinking it would be nice if Ogre would have the feature to unload the biggest Mipmap after loading a texture. For example, you have a lot of 4096 textures in your media, that the application will load the textures, generate the mipmaps, remove the biggest one or two mipmaps if the memory usage is too high. Or, that in the configuration options, you would have an option "texture detail" (like in the unigine heaven demo) where they can specify the amount of detail they want to use.

Any opinions on this?

Somthing been built into ogre might be better but it couldn't be automatic. It's discussed quite a bit in that topic
