Sky Rooms

Post by morricone »

First, I want to thank you for programming such a great engine. :)

In games based on the Unreal engine (or in Serious Sam) you can add a more complex sky to your levels than you can do in ogre. You just have to build a room and everything what's in the room will be rendered as sky.

Here's a tutorial which shows how to use it:

With the Serious engine you can even add particle effects to the sky zone.

I'm not really needing it, but it would be a nice feature.

Hmm, maybe I'm missing something, but I didn't really see anything in those two links which can't be done with Ogre already...?

Perhaps you are talking about having a "prepackaged" setup, but if you're not lazy, you can do the same kind of things in Ogre, it's just not prepackaged for you (example: you'll need to use particles to do rain, instead of just checking an option box...)

Perhaps I'm misunderstanding your request..

Truthfully there isn't anything you can't do with Ogre because it can be programmed if you have the knowledge, time, and willpower.

I believe he's referring to games engines and the ability to use an SDK to make things easily. OGRE isn't a games engine, it's a graphics rendering engine :)
