Bone Animation Blending

How can tell a animation to only affect one part of a body and not another.
Ex:
Run + Throw Grenade.

Run should only affect the upper boddy and not the legs.
And i dont want to create the animations
Run_And_Throw
StrafeLeft_And_Throw
StrafeRight_And_Throw
Run_Backwards_And_Throw
StrafeLeft_Backwards_And_Throw
StrafeRight_Backwards_And_Throw
Jump_And_Throw....

Only animate the bones you need for each action. So for throughing a grenade you only need the upper body. You can blend it perfectly with a run animation, that only uses the lower body. Of course you still need a complete running animation with upper body, else this might look funny. Same for grenade throughing from standing.
