Looking for experienced Ogre3D dev [Game revival]

A place for employers, project leaders etc to post if they are looking for people to assist with an Ogre-based project. Please only post in this area if you have a _serious_ project proposition for which you already have something to show for.

Looking for experienced Ogre3D dev [Game revival]

Post by tippythop »

I have a project I need to start and I am not that experienced with Ogre3D. Long story short I am trying to revive an old Casino MMO game from 2008. I have permission from the creator of this abandoned mmo to recreate the server using original assests if thats something you would be worried about (I have said conversations with the original creator if needed). Anywho I have all the files required (meshes, materials, shaders, scenes, etc).

What I am looking for someone to do at the moment is build a small engine because I want to re-write the original game client. I do not have the source code to the original game client unfortunately because the source code for the client and server were lost some time ago when they liquidated.

I have pictures and videos of said game client running when the server was originally live. The only way to actually get the game client to function is to have the server back-end going and that is something I am re-writing as well because it used DirectPlay8 which is oldddd and unreliable. I am a c++ dev but I am not good with Ogre3D as stated. I did manage to get a hold of a scene viewer client (GOSE) that I could properly view all the original scenes.

I use to play said mmo when it was originally going, that is also why I am eager to revive it. I am mainly trying to see if there is anyone out there willing to help me first. As said just mainly looking for a small game client that would be built first to get the game world back up. Payment can be discussed if you would be willing to help. I would have a budget of up to $50,000 to get an entire game client re-built.

look like a cool game...
way i see it getting the scenes and moving characters is the easy part
i imagine that there are many sub-games involved( poker, dice etc... ) and client/server interaction which turns it into a complex project-
this kind of project which involves mmo+virtual world+mini-games could take up to a year for an ogre pro
ogre community is shrinking and most users have their own projects and startups, so not sure if you can find what you wish within a 50,000$ budget
what i can offer you is a free advice( for the next one i would normally charge 10,000$ )
convert all the assets to unity, and rewrite the game client/server with unity, it would be heck faster than rewriting it with ogre
and the pro-bonus of using unity is that you can easily find really cheap professional labour on any free-lancing website
good luck...
