3DS MAX 8.0 + Ogre3DSMAX exporter 1.0.3 trouble.

Post by saladin »

It says 'export succesful' but when I go to the destination drive there's nothing there. HELP! And if I try opening it with meshviewer it generates an exception.

i'm currently having the same problem.
I just recently upgraded to Max 8 from Max 6. I had the exporter working fine in Max 6. So I upgraded, and re-installed the plugin.
Now I'm having similar problems as described above.
I export the mesh just like I always used to, and when i go to the folder, nothing is there even though the plugin tells me that the exportation was successful.
If anyone can help, i'd greatly appreciate it.
Thanks =)

More info would help everyone help you. For instance, which exporter are you using?

Here's one thing that may be a problem when upgrading to Max8. It now defaults to installing in the "Program Files" directory, which has a space in the path. This will mess up the Octopus exporter's path settings.

So, if you are using Octopus, check your INI file:
C:\Program Files\Autodesk\3dsMax8\Scripts\octopus\octopusScript.ini

Make sure the paths use the old DOS short filename convention, like so:

XMLConverterPath=C:\Progra~1\Autodesk\3dsMax8\Scripts\octopus\exe
OgreViewerExePath=C:\Progra~1\Autodesk\3dsMax8\Scripts\octopus\viewer
OgreViewerMediaPath=C:\Progra~1\Autodesk\3dsMax8\Scripts\octopus\viewer

I thought that the original poster said what version was being used.
It's The Max Exporter v.1.0.3 found here:
http://www.ogre3d.org/index.php?option= ... t=category
I'm not sure what else I can explain. I install it as the install directions suggest, and everything 'looks' like it's working. I.E. Button appears, exporter menu appears, it even says it exported the mesh properly.
Yet when i go to the place where i exported to, there is nothing there.

Saladin, did you ever get this figured out?
Has anyone else experienced this? Been trying to figure it out for a few days now.

Ditto...

im using the 1.0.6 version, exactly the same thing.. "export successfull" and nothing thereafter.. i've changed the .ini paths for be non-space, still no love

btw, im not using the octopus version (they seem to be different?) which does work (i switched to the ogre one), im using this one

I'd be happy to help out debug it, but maxscript is sooo not my forte and since the plugin is generating 0 in terms of errors/messages its a little hard.

For me the exporter worked fine, but I really liked the Octopus exporter which can be found at the YAKE website (or search in google). It exports scenes as well, and I didn't have any problems with it so far.

I have the same problem with the new OGRE Exporter 1.19.
It seems that the export tools work just fine but can't save the File. If you go to the MAXscript listener you can save the File as xml or material and it works, but you have to do separat runs for Mesh and Material as the Material is overwriting the Mesh informations. Hope someone will find a solution for this problem soon.
