Sunny Arkanoid - screenshots

Post by madmax »

Hi everybody! :D

Image
I' ve started this project (only by myself) a few months ago and now i have some screens to show you! :) I hope you'd like them.

My Sunny Arkanoid is a classic arkanoid game with blocks and a racket. Some of the blocks contain in them bonuses, which you must collect with the racket. You can control the racket by mouse and throw the ball in the beginning by LMB, or use the arrows (or A-D for hardcore gamers :)) and ENTER for these aims.

Up to now i have fully realised the controls, the ball intersections, the level creating (i store the levels in .level files), the blocks disappearing and something that i won't tell you for the moment - it's a secret.

TODO:
- bonuses and all that is conserned with them
- intro and some camera effects
- score system
- mood music
- sounds
- ...

So, there's a lot of things to do, but some day i'll get it finished and you all will be able to see my great creation! 8) :D

Here we go:
Image Image Image Image Image Image Image Image

Comments:
1st. the ":)" level.
2nd. fully DESTRUCTive physics :)
3rd and 8th - powerbounce when touching racket's side

P.S. Waiting for your feedback!

I've read something about destructible physics there. It's my favorite topic as well. Can I hear how you've made yours?

Thanx everybody!!!!!!! :) :!:

@pjcast: yeah, great time it was...
I'll do! What about demo?.. For the moment, i hadn't thought about it, but now i'll start working on it. What do you want? A real demo with almost all features realised, or you'll be satisfied with a technodemo - stable release of current developing state? :D

@Psih: Уже прочитал, спасибо! Very good?.. I think so too. :D

@Olex: It's a joke  I mean only that blocks full realisticly beat the ball from sides and corners and they are very funny disappearing when the ball is in 'superball' mode (it crushes every block that's on its way). My physics is a simple collision system, based on the OgreOpcode.

@Louiz ofRohr: Спасибо! It's only beginning...

@Crashy: I LOVE them too! There'll be probably changing of particles colours when you collect a good bonus (greenies) and bad bonus (red particles).

@dfacchin: Yeah, it's a soccer ball. Point is that at the beginning i wanted to use three different types of balls: tennis (small and fast), football (big and slow) and rugby (big and slow but irregular and rebounding unexpectedly). But when i created that nice soccer ball mesh, i liked it so much that forgot about the others! :)

Demo is always great. I played Arkanoid for hours years ago...
If you ask me, I don't care as long as it makes fun to play ;)
Altough a real demo... this would be incredible...

Keep up the great work

THNX once more! :)
Yesterday, PSIH told me a very good idea about the walls - all you have seen how they are small and ugly. First, i made them wider ~60% and taller ~20%. And now i decided to make them invisible for the user (but still use them for the collisions) and probably to replace them visually by a very cool thing - you'll see it on the sceens as soon as i''do it. It'll be four intersecting in the corners lines, and the bottom line will be red to show that you mustn't cross it with the ball. Something like this:
Image (c)Made by Paint(r) :D
What do you think about it? (Of cource, it won't be so ugly realised)
And what do u think about a gradient added to each line, fading away from walls? I think it'll look beautiful.

And i also want to change the resolution from standard 4:3 to more square resolution - something like 800x768 or even 800x800. Is this possible for the non-fullscreen mode? Does enybody know?

Well I know it isn't gonna work for fullscreen, but it should just work in window mode. I've once made a DX window rendering something and resized it to the most stupid values (like 6x348) and still worked. I can't see why 800*800 wouldn't work! The only problem would be that it wouldn't fit in a 1024*768 desktop  ...

thanks, raicuandi, i'll think about it. Probably, i'll make the resolution 800x768 or 768x768 to fit the sceen, but the top win32 strip with title and close&maximize buttons will still be out of the screen bounds... Then so i need even smaller resolution... 640x640? 800x640? 600x640?.. What do u think, which of these resolutions will be acceptable?

P.S. Does anybody know how it can be done in details - some useful methods or little sweety code snippits? :)
P.P.S. In fact, my desktop res is 1280x960, so i won't have problems with the window... Perhaps, i need to give user a choice between, for example, 640x640 and 800x800...

Wow.
Doesn't seem like something you would need a 3D engine for, but it certainly promotes eyecandy!
