[SOLVED] Exporting models from 3dmax

Post by poppu »

Hello,

I've made some models in 3Dsmax7 with some techniques (bump,self-illumating and shader). And they don't work.

Exporting model with a simple texture with no effects works fine.
But
-> bump mapping doesn t work (bump layer not written in .material).
-> self-illumating doesn t work (i think .material is correct but the model is invisible when applying this texture on it)
-> shader doesn t work too.

I tried oFusion exporter and Maxscript exporter and it was same results.

I'm trying to understand .material and to make them by myself but it'll be great if exporter can do it for me.

Perhaps there are some things to do (or not to do) in 3dmax for models compatible with OGRE ?

Have you tried doing the tutorials provided with oFusion? My Co-developer and I don't have a problem with generating bump or normap bump maps. The best way to learn materials in the context of 3ds Max would be to do those tutorials. oFusion has an excellent artist/material script interface, and the tuts are short.

Have you converted the 3dsmax materials to OGRE's, before exporting?

-> I only use the Ogre (or oFusion) exporter which make a .material and a .mesh. Do i have to convert 3ds materials before use the exporter ? And if yes, how to do this ?

Yes, you have to convert the 3dsmax materials to Ogre's. Don't know exactly which is the caption of the button which does this. :)
Anyway, it will be better for you if you'll follow the tutorials.

It's the same URL where you got the exporter.

The tut walk throughs are located in the oFusion.chm file. The tutorial files are located on the site above, and the oFusion guys have recently released some videos to go along with the tuts.
