maya export results in invisible mesh

Post by mchen »

I've been playing with Ogre for a week now and absolutely love it :D

I am using a maya model that I purchased online. I added some animations and ran it through the maya exporter to get my "mannequin.mesh" and "mannequin.skeleton" files. I couldn't view it in the mesh viewer, but I tried it out in one of the tutorial applications. It shows up under spotlights as a transparent model with shadows, but is invisible otherwise. I need a solid model, not a transparent one. The animations work fine so I know the skeleton exported ok.

Other things I've tried:
I can view the .mesh.xml in 3D Object Converter but not the .mesh.
I tried running XMLConverter on the .mesh.xml, but get nothing - no .mesh file and no error messages. (Obviously having trouble with XMLConverter as well). :?

Anyway, I've been struggling with this for the past two days and could really use some advice.

Thanks everyone.

Solved

Not being a modeler and running out of time, I gave up on Maya and found a workaround with blender.

I ended up taking the mesh.xml that was exported from Maya and opened it with 3D Object Converter. From there, I exported it to a Blender .obj file. I opened the .obj in Blender and exported it to .xml, ran that through the xml converter and finally got a working mesh.

A very round about solution, but at least the converted .xml is no longer transparent, but solid now.

Hey :)
sorry to answer so late but I missed the thread...
Can you post the maya scene you used so I can make a couple of tests and hopefully correct the bug from the exporter?
I wonder what the problem could be... maybe the wrong version of the xml converter?
