Walaber's Trampoline v1.0 [released]

Post by walaber »

many of you have already seen / played this game before, but the official version 1.0 has been completed, so I am posting here (with new screenshots) :)

Description
Walabers Trampoline is an action trampoline simulation game for the Windows PC. The game uses powerful physics and animation to create a very realistic looking 3D trampoline game. Utilizing an unique control scheme using only 7 buttons, players can perform almost every move possible on the trampoline- including multiple flips and twists in different positions.

I just saw the you tube video.

Wow, it easily passed my expections, it's like those Tony Hawk games but for trampolines.

Seriously, Wow.

I played this a long time ago and I thought it was a bit rough around the edges but right now it looks and plays really good. Together with Stunt Playground you sure have a CV worth admiring... congratulations on your achievments man!

Very cool Walaber!!

It's an inspiration to those who may doubt whether they can finish their projects.

I have a question (or 2). Did you do the human models yourself? What did you do the human models with? If I could model and animate that well my game quality would explode 10 fold.

thanks for all of the comments everyone!

the Male human model was actually modelled by another artist for me. I imported it into blender and rigged and animated it though. The Girl model was done by me, that's why it's not quite as well-done. The animation is actually very simple pose-loops that are blended together to transition between them.

You used OgreNewt in this right?

This is really cool! It's such a great idea, too. You know, there's only one thing that's wrong with it - the girl's skirt is rigid. Maybe you should give her a leotard instead?

sinbad - yeah pretty much, the only other trampoline games I could find were very simple flash ones:
http://www.killsometime.com/games/Game.asp?ID=356
http://www.funny-games.biz/trampoline.html

any chance of this becoming a Featured Project? 8)

facchin - it's basically rigid bodies connected together with spring forces to represent the stretching of the trampoline.

I don't know if it's in, but if not what would be very cool is a mode where the camera is placed at eyes position (and its orientation would follow the head movings) so that you could really feel you are the 'trampoliner' ! Maybe a little difficult to play then, and one should not be seasick...

Hey Walaber,

the game looks amazing, great work! I think my favorite part is either the awesome spin flips or the crazy ragdolls!

Hmmm... If I tuck while jumping straight up and down and then let go of "S" right before I hit the trampoline, my feet go through the trampoline and I get stuck in it. After a little bit I fall over and it tells me to hit the retry button, but if I hit the retry button before that, the game goes a little crazy. My person starts to teleport around the trampoline, fall through the whole level, and stuff like that.

So, a bug?

It doesn't happen often, so it's still very fun. :D

NOTE: I only have "The Backyard" and "The Local Gym" levels and it does happen at both levels, but it seems a lot easier to do at "The Backyard."

EDIT: After unlocking the next place I decided to see if the same thing happened. I did get my feet stuck, but when I reset it, nothing happened. Then I went back to the other places to see if it still happened. And nothing happened there, even after doing the same exact thing. The moral of the story: when it comes to programs, I have no idea what is going on.

Hmm, I have managed to get my feet stuck in the tramp like that, but have never been teleported to random places; it will crash me a few seconds later, or I'll reset it before that happens and continue playing fine, or sometimes I can jump back out of the tramp.

I have seen a problem with the computer demonstrating how to do tricks. If the trick involves a twist, the computer player is pretty much guaranteed to crash out. It seems he can't twist fast enough. Don't know if that's just on my computer or what. The rest of the demos work fine.

Apart from that, a really fantastic and enjoyable game. Nice visuals, great gameplay (and something different from the norm, which is a real bonus), good music, and it takes some skill to play (which is good).

What might be nice is to have a descriptive trick list in-game. When doing the competitions, it will give you the names of some tricks that you are required to do, and if it isn't one that I've just learnt in the story mode, I will often have to look up how to do it.

Brilliant work, walaber. Keep it up.

wow  but really... trampolining?! Games are suppose to be VIOLENT... next you'll tell me Rockstar is making a Ping Pong game ;)

I hear that olympic ski jumpers use trampolines to practice their jumps. Could be a nice extension if your wanting to taking it further with a shareware release - trampoline for free, pay to get out on the slopes.

@bain: yeah, I've had that a few times, but not too often. I think it has something to do with your timing of hitting the button in relation to what else you're doing.

@DesertFoxCat: I did manage to get that weird bug happening once. It was either at the Local Gym or the Highschool at the time, can't remember for sure.

@walaber: I've played through most of the game now - all of the story mode (including all the extras) and all competitions completed. Valhalla is pretty much unplayable on my computer: low enough framerate that it's really hard to time things, and it sometimes doen't respond to my keypresses as a result. Shame too, it looked like a really interesting level. I need to upgrade my computer sometime soon anyway.

How is it that this hasn't made it into the Featured Projects section yet?
