Ludus Magnus - Release Candidate 2 is now available !

Post by Creajeux_Progs »

For DEMO : follow this link

Hello everybody !

I'm here to introduce our project, called "Ludus Magnus"

The School : this project is part of our formation, and we have to make a game in one year, actually a demo game, as its hard to make a game in one year :?
The school named Creajeux is in France in Nmes.
2 formations exists : programmers and 3D graphists.
As we don't have Game designer, a french studio, Creative Patterns, gave us one, and control the project from Strasbourg. They can ask modifications and can give us some professional advices for both side ( 3D and programmation)

The team : 8 graphists and 9 programmers , final year of formation

The Engine : well, i'm on Ogre forums after all, so lets talk about Ogre : we choose this graphic engine to make our project, and for the moment, its just perfect  . Creative Patterns also work on Ogre, which makes more support, but your community is such big, thats the forums answers our question most of the time. The rest of the engine is made by us.

The Blog : http://www.ludusmagnus-thegame.com ( only french, sorry)

The Game : In Ludus Magnus, u will be able to train your gladiator, build some different buildings to make your gladiator happy, stronger or relaxed, and then put him in Coliseum for a big battle against other gladiators.

A multiplayer mode will also be available.

Gold Time : June 2007

Our pre-production is now finish, and we have started real production.

We can allready see the whole map, select and move our gladiator :
Image

I will try to post some new screenshots when new stuff arrived.
Don't hesitate to ask questions and remarks here .

And meet in June for final release. :D

Looks good. Nice idea.

Since you have so many people working on it, making a good game in one year is not a problem, if you have the right tools and knowledge.

But til the end of the year, we'll be able to work for real, in real studio, making real big huge games...we alll hope that  ..

I agree.

1 artist and 1 developer on terrain will accomplish a lot in a year

...1 artist and 1 developer on GUI...2 dev on ogre...

I know of a 'team' comprises of one programmer, one graphics artist which can develop a one-level game in 3 months :)

Thanks for all your encouragements !

Here are some new screenshots :

The arena mode that you will access when you send your gladiator to fight.
ON the left are 5 buttons, corresponding to the different skills of your gladiator, you will have to choose each round what skill to use against the other gladiator. On the top, you can see both gladiators life, their logo, and the skill chosen
Image

You can now construct some buildings in your school

Here is the construction method

It looks like it's coming along very nicely. The architecture is amazing! Can't wait to play this, it looks very fun and somewhat original.

Heeeeey, this is very nice! =D

Of course, as I'm viewing a few of these, I get Russel Crowe's face in my mind growling, "I am a slave!!"
"Perhaps the most fundamental problem, however, is that INTJs really want people to make sense."

Thanks for all your congrats !

You can allready download the current version here (07/04/07) !

There are some crashes in this version, be carreful :p

Not many texts yet, but this is coming with next versions..be patient ^^

tips : construct a slave market first (you can rotate before building with spacebar).
Then took the slave with your mouse (drag and drop like all characters..except NPCs).

Construct a recruit building (snake or dolphin, if you want to continue...)
then put your slave on this building, the slave will be transformed into a gladiator.

Then, you can train him in the 5 different skills (look at screenshots above)

When ready (do it fast before it crash :D ), just put your gladiator on the arena tunnel that you have build.

...Loading...

Welcome in the arena !
Choose a skill on the left (3 out of 5 available). You can change it on each round. One round last about 5 seconds.

When fight is finish, you'll have to come back to the menu (Echap).

You can launch directly the arena mode, but you can't attribute values to your skill yet (coming soon ;) ).

Enjoy ;)

Any comments aprreciated (good and bad ones ^^ )

Genuinely impressive! And great to see an Ogre powered sim game! :)

It really shows that you're putting all you have into it!
/* Less noise. More signal. */

By the way, as I speak for Creative Patterns, we are doing a game with Ogre as well, which is Building World, more to see in the showcase forum soon (there is already some shots in the gallery section).

I will also have to test this RC2 :)

I've installed it and it does look good (I really like the hand that picks up my slaves). The mouse speed is very slow on my machine (a new option perhaps...?)

Good work!
