Remove ".dll" requirement from windows plugins

Post by Game_Ender »

Trying to have cross platform config files is complicated by the fact that on Mac and Linux you don't need any special name ending like ".so" or ".dylib" for loading plugins but on Windows you do. It would be nice if Ogre could just add this in internally.

For example, on Windows you need:

Code: Select all

Plugin = RenderSystem_GL.dll
While on Mac/Linux you can have:

Code: Select all

Plugin = RenderSystem_GL

You don't need the .dll.
Do you need help? What have you tried?

The plugins.cfg for ogre's demos running in windows:

Code: Select all

# Defines plugins to load

# Define plugin folder
PluginFolder=.

# Define plugins
Plugin=RenderSystem_Direct3D9
Plugin=RenderSystem_GL
Plugin=Plugin_ParticleFX
Plugin=Plugin_BSPSceneManager
Plugin=Plugin_CgProgramManager
Plugin=Plugin_PCZSceneManager.dll
Plugin=Plugin_OctreeZone.dll
Plugin=Plugin_OctreeSceneManager
Only 2 of them have .dll on the end, but they don't need it. The rest work fine.

Code: Select all

root->loadPlugin("RenderSystem_Direct3D9");
Has been running like that for ... a while.

Wow, I feel kind of stupid.

Is that what is in the configuration file for the demos on windows has? This is the linux one:

Code: Select all

# Defines plugins to load

# Define plugin folder
PluginFolder=/home/jlisee/projects/mrbc/trunk/deps/local/lib/OGRE

# Define D3D rendering implementation plugin
Plugin=RenderSystem_GL.so
Plugin=Plugin_ParticleFX.so
Plugin=Plugin_BSPSceneManager.so
Plugin=Plugin_OctreeSceneManager.so
#Plugin=Plugin_CgProgramManager.so
I guess I change my request to: Remove and/or the endings when loading plugins.

If any of the shipped config files have endings, they should be removed from the config files. The code adds the endings depending on the platform.

For linux it appears the ".so" is there in the current version.
