At the time Mr. McCain was born, the Canal Zone in Panama, where he was born, was under the sovereign jurisdiction of the U.S., starting in 1903, until Jimmy Carter gave it back in 1979.

This is where he qualifies, as the Canal Zone was no different from any of the territories of the U.S. This issue came up when Barry Goldwater ran for president. He was born in Arizona before it was a State, and the US Supreme Court ruled in favor of his qualification. That he ended up losing the election is irrelevant to the precedent. This is why you see nothing but some election year talk about McCain's birthplace.

I was in grade school when Alaska and Hawaii became states, those born there in 1951 would have the same status as Mr. McCain does regarding the constitutional requirement of being a "natural born Citizen" to be eligible for the office of President or Vice President.

In all the talk about "Ahnuld" becoming eligible for the office of President, it would require a Constitutional amendment. There have been but five amendments in my lifetime, less than one a decade on average, so he might be as old as McCain is by the time any changes got made.

Panama is in the continent America.

Why do people think that America = USA ?
Well, if you read that link you posted the third sentence says that the term America can refer to just the USA. :)

Some people say that in 1936 was no hospital in the panama-zone.
Documents show that No Hospitals existed in the Canal Zone prior to 1941!

Therefore it has now been shown that John McCain was NOT born in the Panama Canal Zone at all, NOR was he born on a US military base or in a US hospital. Therefore there is no way John McCain can claim birth on US soil and therefore he cannot claim natural birth in the US. He was therefore born abroad on Panamanian soil and does not meet constitutional requirements of eligibility to hold the Office of President of the United States.

Well, except that it is actually possible to give birth when not in a hospital.

What he means is that McCain was not born on "US soil" such as in an US Hospital.

Except that US military bases (including US Navy aircraft carriers at sea), as I mentioned above, are sovereign US territory, so he was in fact born on US soil.
Do you need help? What have you tried?

Let no one doubt that if there was any base for the claim that John McCain is ineligible to be President, the issue of his eligibility would be in a Federal Court case right now, instead of being debated on the internet.

You need only look at recent activity in the court system on political issues to know that enough people take things seriously enough to fight every detail out in court. There was a recent case that tried to block the requirement that voters in Indiana show an ID card, and everyone remembers the 2000 election feud between Mr. Bush and Mr. Gore over hanging chads (at least our vocabulary was enriched by the dispute).

This election is very followed across the world, more than ever.
For those interested, there are some data about opinions from foreign countries.

Edit: I've just looked at the pdf version which is much bigger, not related to the election really, it's a really interesting report, that helps to understand the world ;)

Well, Europeans for the most part don't really like the US ... where's the news ?
That's been pretty much true ( with some minor variations) since I can remember ( that would be second Reagan term.)

I think the election was followed probably because of the fight between Obama vs Clinton + what kind of 'change' that Obama is talking about. Now having clinched the nomination, Obama seems to compromise more and more (in other word he is becoming less and less naive), and it looks like the mould or system is ready for him to dive in. It is no more interesting, well it is expected anyway.

Sorry for ruining the mode, but I just need to say something  And of course, I am not sure if what I said here represents the same thought of many people from different culture, background, nations and so forth.

And a washed-out dream
They follow the pattern of the wind, ya' see
Cause they got no place to be
That's why I'm starting with me

the news is that "it's improving" ;)
seriously, it's a very interesting report; there is indeed a large part on opinions on the US and I understand this is what you focus on; but there are lot of other questions on various topics, it's interresting to have statistics of opinions at the world scale.
but what I originally wanted to point out is that people think Obama is hot :)

I can't tell really (i can remember only since Clinton's) but it seemed to me it wasn't that bad in the 90's, I would have thought actually it was kind of good. hopefully it will get better soon.

Meh, I think people would like the US more if they lived here. These days you get a lot more freedom than you do back home, and Bush isn't really involved in much of the everyday running of states since they have their own governments that are largely independent.

In comparrison the UK where I spent my first 27 years has really suffered with New Labour and turned into a nanny almost police state, embraced political correctness, health and safety etc with almost insane fervor, and found ways to tax change the population in ways I'd never have dreamed possible in 1998 when I left.

Used to be proud of the UK, these days I'm for the most part relieved I'm here in California and don't have to suffer constant surveilance by 5,000,000 CCTV cameras, speed cameras, and put up with signs telling me to report antisocial behaviour. No chavs and for the most part kids are polite, well behaved. Not bad considering that I live in a nice part of the state capital city which doesn't have the best reputation.

The view on the US was mostly positive during Clinton's presidency. Afghanistan, Iraq and the fact that Bush got a second term and how he got it triggered the change in oppinion mostly. At least that is the impression I got here. At the time of Reagan I'd say people around here got edgy because of all the nuclear weapons standing around.
Enough is never enough.
