a web plugin !!!

Post by ciano »

I think that porting the ogre engine on the browser will open a new door for develop rich content websites! (3d accelerated and not a 3d fake engine made in flash) even games online!
Ogre has already every features for it, need just a port! It could become a new standard for the Web!!!

wut do u think?

p.s. I don't think that for the creator of Ogre should be so hard to write a plugin/activex.

p.s.s. A plugin/activex that works for every browser and not just for firefox or IE !

Thanks!

You mean, like Emma3D or Blink3D?

http://emma3d.sourceforge.net/

http://www.pelicancrossing.com/

That Google thingy, it's your friend, you know. ;)

In fact, here is a product that is based on the Blink3D plugin:

Yeah I already know about Emma3D and Blink3D.
The first seams a dead project the second isn't free and even sucks as speed + visuals.

The best web plugin that I found is Unity 3d engine that the web plugin is just 3 mb and load a "GAME" takes just few seconds. So I was thinking about a better port of Ogre in the web cuz Blink3d doesn't do a good job.

So let's hope in the Ogre Team or I had to spend 200 box for Unity (indy version).

p.s. this is my research about webplugin. They are all commercial :(

Blink3d = 9.6 mb // slow not all the power of Ogre (at least the example that I saw) // free - lite 199$ - Pro 399$

DX Studio = 12 mb // too lond to download, good feautres. // free - Lite£175 - Pro £375

Unity3d = 3 mb // Wow speed loading scene, wow graphics. // lite $199 - pro $1499

Well I can tell you right now, that on the list of priorities for the Ogre team, "making yet another Ogre web plugin when more than one already exist", falls somewhere around 9,672 on the list.

If it's this important to you, then you should get cracking on making one that fits your needs. On the other hand, what's your time worth? It's probably worth more than the cost of obtaining a license for a commercial offering, which is exactly why middleware exists in the first place.

Comparing Unity to Ogre is entirely apples to oranges. One is a complete game engine, the other is a general-purpose 3D rendering API.
Do you need help? What have you tried?

well, I didn't want to say "ehy make that plugin for me!" I don't have the necessary kwoldge to do that, I can try...I just want to say that, if Ogre will be also on the web, (and not just for games but also to ccreate a new level of websites) it could become a standards and more and more people will use Ogre increasing the popolarity...well this is just a suggestion and nothing else. For sure it will be awesome for my purpose that I want to make a 3d website with beautiful effects using the hardware acceleration, but I think that is also the will of hundred people...

...anyway it still a suggestion

Thanks for this great engine

well, maybe my english isn't perfect but the thing that I wanted to say was that u will not create that plugin just for me or cuz I wanted it, but is for everyone, I think that also other people want that or are finding for it.

If I had enough knowlgde I'll do it but I don't have, so for this reason I wrote that for the creator of the engine should not be so hard to write it.

Hoping that some day we will see a good porting on the web of this engine.

Bye

Why on Earth would we want it? :)
That's really totally out of scope of a high performance 3D rendering engine.

Ogre is being used in games of near-triple-a quality.
I think it'll be just fine without web plugin :)

Speaking of browser 3d engines, don't forget Kalydo.

I think its not hard to make webplugin its much harder to make it fast and make it compatible with several browsers and os out there.

Just 4 fun i tested to wrap ogre into a activex component it took me not so long. Here are some screenshots

Word as html designer:

IE7:

So if you really want a stable plugin (i mean plugins because firefox dont like activex so much) stick with the commercial products.

Hello,

There is free alternative; the Kalydo platform.

You can download it at http://www.dreamcreateplay.com. It is a 3D game development kit with Lua support. The best thing is that we give support, online distribution and data storage for free with it. As soon as the game starts making money, revenue sharing is offered.

For examples of games build with this technology see;
http://www.kalydo.com

Greetings,

Mark Schroders, I saw that your promotional 'video' put Ogre3D before Torque.
We approve of that.

LOL

So in other words, no one would write you some free software, so you'll take your ball and leave, eh? Somehow I'm not surprised...
