[unpaid] IndieZen.org is looking for coders, artists...

A place for employers, project leaders etc to post if they are looking for people to assist with an Ogre-based project. Please only post in this area if you have a _serious_ project proposition for which you already have something to show for.

[unpaid] IndieZen.org is looking for coders, artists...

Post by Tony Richards »

IndieZen.org is looking for C++ coders, artists, game designers and level builders

If you would, take a look at IndieZen.org

Zen Open Source Software is free for personal, educational or commercial use. It is open source with no royalties or GNU-like "copyleft" restrictions.

The only restrictions are that you cannot remove the license (but you can add your own), you cannot remove the copyrights (but you can add your own if you contribute), and you cannot misrepresent the origins of the software. See the ZLib license for the exact text of the license.

Projects include:

Zen Core - threading, scripting, managed pointers, and plugin framework

Zen Engine - Game engine framework using the Core scripting and plugin framework. All major components are plugins with one or more implementations. ZOgre is our Ogre plugin and is the primary plugin we use for rendering and resource management.

Zen Enterprise - Enterprise SOA application server and enterprise service bus using the plugin system to load services and protocol adapters.

Zen Worlds - MMO / virtual worlds framework, adding additional capabilities to Zen Enterprise such as zone services, chat services, login services, etc.

Most of these projects are stable and fully functional but we still have more features we would like to add. We use a agile development methodology, using IRC for design meetings and general purpose discussions. We have a release plan for releasing new features every two months.

We're currently at version 0.3.0 with 0.5.0 being our milestone where we transition from alpha into beta.

We're always looking for more C++ coders... highly skilled or at least willing to learn. We have extremely high coding standards and we're not in a hurry... we're in this for the long haul and we prefer correctness over "quick and dirty" implementation. Ogre experience is a plus but not a requirement.

We also host a variety of other game projects using a variety of genres that are looking for artists, coders (mostly Lua scripting with light C++), level designers, and game designers... again, Ogre experience is a plus but not a requirement.

All of ZOSS is 100% open source created by volunteers and corporate sponsors.

The business model for the game projects vary; some are open source, some are commercial, but I don't think any pay anything outside of potential royalties / profit sharing.

If you are interested in contributing to any of these projects, feel free to post here or in our forums.

Thanks!

Hey, having a look through the webpage and forums, it looks like you have a very promising piece of middleware. You can count me in.

It also looks as if it's very cross-platform Windows/Linux/Mac, one of the attributes I think will become more and more important as the market matures. One of the killers for indies is the sheer quantity of work that is required before they can even start building their dream game, which is what puts them off because not many people like spending 6 months programming furiously to get a stable base going vs. having something up on the screen and able to be toyed with.

I'll be online this weekend... if you're interested then hit the Ogre IRC, or the IndieZen IRC (irc.indiezen.org port 16667 #indiezen), or if you can't do IRC then send me an e-mail or a PM on the IndieZen.org community forums. (I'm Tony Richards on the forums and SgtFlame|Zen in IRC)

I'll set you up with a SVN account (read only for starters, then you get your own branches for initial read-write work) and point you in the right direction for setting up your dev environment.

If you're a decent coder, it only takes a couple of hours... less if you already have boost (we use 1.35.0). Plenty of work to do...just a matter of pairing you up with a suitable task based on your interests and skill levels. :P

Hi again tony, definately will be able to do that (irc). Looking through the tickets still yet to be completed, I've been going ahead with thinking about how exactly i'd implement the MVC design for data bound gui forms. After work today, I may go on to the irc channel and explain some of the conclusions I've come to and bounce them off other people to work out bugs in the design/better define the scope of the problem.

Excellent... that sounds like a good task, other than possibly we'll need to have #69 done first. It was assigned to me but I didn't get anywhere with it yet. If you do that one too then that'll let you cut your teeth on a simpler task while you're designing the more complicated MVC task.

At any rate, we're looking forward to working with you.
