Awesomium v1.0 Demo and Video -- SDK just released!

Post by ajs15822 »

Hey yall!

As some of you may know, I've been working the past several months on a library called "Awesomium" that will allow developers to easily embed and render web-content in their applications. If you know of NaviLibrary, Awesomium shall be its new "back-end" in an upcoming release.

Image

Anyways, since I'm working on the final release candidate for Awesomium v1.0, I just finished a little demo for it that uses Ogre3D and thought that some of yall might want to try it out!

You can download the demo (Win32 Only) here.

Also, for your viewing pleasure, I've posted a video of me playing around in the demo here (just click the image):

You can find future updates to Awesomium and my other projects at my blog.

Enjoy~!

EDIT:

I just posted a link to the Awesomium info page on Digg and Reddit, if you liked the demo or video, please vote it up! :D

Really cool stuff? May I ask how you make these shadows of the website content? Just setting everything that is white to transparent?

I love it. I think I'll have to add a web browser to my game just to be able to use it.

I'm so excited for a working stable v1.0 I'm just about wetting my pants. Great demo! I don't get the fancy shadows though, which is odd.

@ spacegaier,

Awesomium is able to render the background of most pages as transparent (excluding those with background images) and so the shadows are a natural after-effect of the alpha channel.

@ Penguin,

Haha yup!

@ Wretched_Wyx,

Thanks! You can enable shadows with F7-- if you've already enabled them, make sure that the plane isn't parallel to the light source (just rotate camera and hit F1 twice to "pop" the plane to a different section of terrain while in 3D-mode).

In the video you should have shown the youtube video of you demoing it in engine, that would have really blown people's minds!

Oh my. I've been really dorky as of late, missing things right in front of my face (the old saying "if it were a snake, it would have bit me" comes to mind). Just checked it out again, and you earn an extra gold star for the shadows

You seriously pump out some good shite man, if I had a developer's site that gave out awards, you would have one.

Hah, thanks! It would be neat if Ogre3D had community awards and competitions to make like "the coolest demo/app/something", might be an idea to pitch to Sinbad. :D

This is just so mindbogglingly cool that I don't know how to put it! :D

Except that Awesomium is a very fitting name for it. :)

According to the 'Prince of Code' website Awesomium is not free for commercial purposes, but Navi as far as I know is LGPL'd. If Awesomium is going to be a dependency for Navi how will that affect the licensing structure?

From the name of the project, I assume (maybe he talked about it somewhere) that awesomium is based on chromium, the open source backend of google chrome. Since chrome is multiplatform, this should be too. (Again, guessing)

This might become another trend throughout YouTube, you know? I mean, people recording videos of users browsing this thread and finding this screenshot, then other user replying them recording himself viewing the previous video, and so on...

This would be far simpler with a real-time webcam display on a plane within Ogre.

Re: Awesomium v1.0 Bug

Post by altren »

I opened your site in demo without transparency and everything was fine, but when I enabled and disabled it back I got bug:
Image - transparency disabled but part of background now white instead claret.
Same bug if I enable transparency and then open your site and then disable it.
