You can have hierarchical ini-files:

Would be cool. The format is very similar to Ogre scripts. :)

But, then again: How hard would it be to use Ogres script parser for your own custom scripts?

After some quick Google-foo: Yes, I am certain that you can use textual protobufs for parsing.
But, beware: Textual protobufs are 500% slower than binary protobufs.
But a lot friendlier than XML.

You still can't do things like lists, etc. that you can easily in XML.

Link? I know text protobufs are slower, it's kind of obvious. But I'm 99% sure you can't parse them, they're only for debug output.

Edit:
Actually, it does seem possible: http://code.google.com/apis/protocolbuf ... ormat.html

Coloured rectangle, you called?
Cool, now make one exactly 14 x 348 pixels. :)
(Over a background image with lines to indicate different grades too)

This is what my current one looks like:

That's pretty cool! :)
And, yeah: I meant memory usage, not speed. But that's kinda obvious too, isn't it?
Looks like I am going to say good-bye to my ini-files.
