After some quick Google-foo: Yes, I am certain that you can use textual protobufs for parsing.
But, beware: Textual protobufs are 500% slower than binary protobufs.
But a lot friendlier than XML.

Link? I know text protobufs are slower, it's kind of obvious. But I'm 99% sure you can't parse them, they're only for debug output.
That's pretty cool!
And, yeah: I meant memory usage, not speed. But that's kinda obvious too, isn't it?
