Microsoft XML patent

Post by hpesoj »

Read this:

Usually I'd be ecstatic to see a small company take on Microsoft and win, but this time I'm totally with them. I've scanned through the patent document, and what this company are sueing Microsoft for is taking a regular XML document, extracting all the tags from the body of the document, and storing the tags, along with an index into the plain-text body, in a lookup table. The fact that people can successfully acquire patents like this is just absurd -- there is nothing inovative or inventive about the idea, they are just applying it to XML. I sincerely hope that Microsoft's appeal is successful. Grrr...
