SpaceShip Dogfight Games

Post by Klaim »

They are rare and the last good one was certainly Descent : FreeSpace 2.

Now I know that some indie devs are working on those type of games as it's a niche abandonned by major publishers.

We should post here news about those type of games are they are not often on the front stage.

I start with videos of a game I've read about on Rock Paper Shotgun:

That was the alpha.

That was the beta.

That second video of Naumachia looks awesome. I've never heard of it.

I'm waiting for:
- Jumpgate Evolution http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9hd9KAa1Ty4
- Infinity The Quest For Earth http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ibZZRDIhtVo

Although more than anything I wish there was an IWAR 3, because IWAR 2 is the best space sim ever (besides Freespace 2). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JyXTnJ__9M4
It's got ramming shields! Your 2 main gun turrets can detach and become ai wingmen! It's got ramming shields!
:)

Yes, the true way to play a space sim is with a joystick. Although 6 degree of freedom games like IWAR 2 or X3 would be interesting with a Space Navigator.

I'm working on something of my own. Not based on Ogre, going very slowly and I have no idea if I'll finish it -- but it's nice practice. If I'll have inspiration and time, maybe I can make something out of it; perhaps by porting to iPhone or something similar.

This is nowhere near being releasable (and I don't have energy to direct any opensource effort), but I saw this thread so I thought I'd post. If nothing, then to show that there's probably tons of this stuff being developed behind closed doors.

Good find! :D
It is an Italian indie game, made by a team consisting only of a 3D artist and an ex-crytek programmer... i met the 3D guy and the project is really awesome and convincing!
I hope they succeed in publishing it and in gathering a good community...
