Re: Aphex Twin/Squarepusher/Photek/Amon Tobin/...
Me!
Although, I'm not keen on the really dirty D&B, I like the clean stuff. Say, Pendulum, Artificial Intelligence, Hospital Records, Goldie, Matrix & Futurebound.
For anyone who doesn't know who Venetian Snares are: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2PBeKzVhWHY
Not heard of Amon Tobin, Aphex Twin or Squarepusher tho, I'll check em out.
Been into more sci-fi music recently (Hybrid, HUVA Network, Solar Fields) This is one of my favorite tracks of the moment: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u3OIKylHqu0&fmt=18

Re: Aphex Twin/Squarepusher/Photek/Amon Tobin/...
I wouldn't say I was an expert, but I know some of their stuff well and really like it.
Aphex Twin I know "Come to Daddy" and "Window Licker", great video clips too. Square Pusher (which if I recall is more or less Aphex Twin) I know "Red Hot Car" and one where there's a little Japanese Girl and a dog locked in a mental asylum... don't know the name but I know the clip, it's in my collection.
It's good stuff, stretches the sonic boundaries.

I do, but not everything and not all the time!
Aphex Twin is definitly a precursor in that area he has some very good stuff http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u-KMFxzA_Lk at 5.36
I think Squarepusher is very different he is always working with very "round" sounds like cords.
I don't know Photek and a very little of Amon Tobin so i can't say.
Venetian Snares is awesome imho
you can find tons of influences from almost everywhere in his musics from classical to jazz, rock, punk, ragga,... you wouldn't find that much in say Aphex Twin...and of course very cool/fun fx and breaks. The Szamár Madár music+video is very nice.
Actually, i found Batard Tronique and he has lot of diversity too and stuff from europe that you wouldn't find in VSnares musics, i like it!

Oooh, yeah. I'm a huge fan of Aphex Twin, particularly the Analords series that was released by "AFX". I recently discovered that Richard James is now recording under the name "The Tuss" and it's as good as ever.
I'm also a fan of Wisp, Boards of Canada, and some Squarepusher.
Not really techno, but Godspeed You Black Emperor is top-notch acoustic music too.

I'd love to pull up in a limo somewhere, get out and do Richard's umbrella dance from Windowlicker (one of the coolest WTF videos of all time).

Aww it seems you guys know 'Come To Daddy' and 'Windowlicker' more than his other cooler stuff.
Like 'Fenix Funk 5' (mind-blowing track), 'Alberto Balsam', 'Flim', 'Crying In Your Face', 'PWSteal.Ldpinch.D' (AFX can do house too, and a lot better than many out there
), 'XMD 5a', '54 Cymru Beats'... All awesome tracks, you guys should check these out.
Daniel, that's the 'new' dnb I've been more into the 'old-school' type dnb with the cooler beats.
Like old Photek stuff, or Source Direct. Yeah I'm '93-born but what the hell.
Yay johnpus knows Analord.
This kind of music, pay complete attention to the details. There's a lot of stuff going on.
Also, check out this video of me playing the Darbuka: Darbuka + (Simple) Live Sound Visualisation

I also know Bucephalus Bouncing Ball. It's a bit hard to sing along with though.

Thanks!akem321 wrote:@nikki: awesome darbuka playing
Do you listen to/play darbuka too? One of my French teachers in school said there's a lot of darbuka (and other middle-eastern percussion) stuff going on in France.
