High Contrast Project: Zombie Game

Post by RoadKillGrill »

For our 2009/2010 senior project, Shawnee State University's The Simulation and Gaming Engineering Technology seniors and Game & Simulation Development Arts seniors have been working on a group project. The goal of this project is to develop a full scale game in two semesters while simulating a game development studio production team. This team is called "High Contrast" and this is footage of their product at the end of two semesters and some free time I've had to go back and improve on it.

Update 11/7/2010 Overhauled and replaced the AI, now using mircopather. Added a new level 3 Assault map and have built another binary install of the current game.
Available on my site Here

Update 9/9/2010 thanks to XypherOrion the game now has improved sounds, a few tweaks to the backend have been done so that the sound is no longer mono.

Update 5/24/2010 added new video, showing off the "final" map and the new blood effects; no new demo yet

Available on my site Here. Still only a Windows install sorry, if anyone is interested and looking over the code to port it to linux build you can message me (beyond some file pathing there should be no windows only dependencies for the game)

Video of the AI while testing, (the zombies are bugged and above the player during this video but its shows what I want :p)

I got a chance to play it. Really well made and polished. I had fun playing it.

My only criticism is that the guns (pistol and shotgun) feel slow to fire. The shotgun isn't even so bad since it makes sense, but the pistol feels way too slow and since its the first gun you get it doesn't do the game any favors in terms of first play experience.

The game suffers from devs playing it until its a challenge to them rather than OTHER people :p

There are a few things that can help (even tho the game doesn't tell you) Your melee can push multiple enemies back and can kill rather effectivly in 2-3 hits on normals.
There is a laptop on the first level outlined in blue that makes the pistol shoot 2 bullets for every shot, ( or gives you allot of stam for the melee if its selected at pickup) .

If you want the fire-rates and damage can be tweaked. The cfg files in the bin directory set almost all relevant variables, so if you want to see what happens when the shotgun shoots 100 bullets in a 180 degree spread you can. If you find something that feels better I may adjust it and put it in future releases it I ever build any.
