Down time weekend of 19th May 2012

Post by sinbad »

Hi folks,

There will be some down time this coming weekend (19th May) as we move the Ogre site on to a new server. The new server is cheaper to run so we're not as dependent on ad revenue to pay for it, and is running much newer base software so we can catch up with some upgrades we've been unable to do in the past. Despite being a VPS instead of a full dedicated box, we're hoping that the new setup will still be as good or maybe even better than the current system, since we've moved away from Apache to Nginx and are using more modern configurations of PHP which should manage the load better. If you're interested in more detail, you can find it on my blog.

The forums will be locked for the transfer period until the DNS propagates to the new site to make sure that no data is lost. We can't lock the wiki into read-only mode as far as I can tell, but we should be able to reproduce any changes if necessary quite easily. Hopefully it won't take too long and within a few hours we should be running again. That said, the new server obviously hasn't been tested with the full traffic load of ogre3d.org, so please bear with us if we encounter any unforeseen issues.

Tiki can be locked down too. So that won't be a problem. :)

Propagated quickly to Toronto. Response to server (and forums) is definitely better than before. Good luck :)

It really feels snappy now.
Let's hope it's because it *is* snappy. :)

Yes, it really feels much faster. Would be awesome if it would stay that way :) .

BTW: I am not (yet) able to re-access Mantis. Anyone else got the same problem?

Mantis seems to work fine for me, anonymously and logged in.

Okay, Mantis via HTTP works, but not via HTTPS and the Mantis RSS Feed produces HTTPS links.

Additionally, the layout looks weird/wrong even after Ctrl+F5.

Looks like mantis defaults to https for some reason if you don't tell it otherwise. I've told it otherwise ;) Layout fixed.
