Which is the best 3ds Max book for beginners?

Post by xme »

Hi,

I have been working with Ogre since January when I moved to my new job :D . We develop, among other things, training simulators for forklifts, bulldozers, cranes, and similar things. I am the C++ programmer, and modelling is done by two colleagues. However, I feel a bit ashamed and frustrated sometimes; since I have to ask for help, every time a small change in the models should be done.

The models are built in 3ds Max, and I would like to learn the basics of this application. So, my question is which 3ds Max book would you recommend for beginners.

I have been searching, and this book seems fine:
http://www.amazon.com/Autodesk-3ds-Max- ... 47&sr=8-11
but I would like to ask if someone can suggest me something better or help me in some way.

Thanks in advance,
Xavi

PS: I have read that there are many places with online tutorials, but I would like to use a book for pushing myself to continue lesson by lesson, following something structured, without gaps or big steps, and with smooth learning curve.

When I taught myself 3dsm a decade and change ago it had REALLY good tutorials built into the program. Not sure if this is the case anymore as I only have copies of really old versions (5 and 7).

Personally I avoid buying books, most of the time you can find the exact same info on the internet.

Hi I am pretty good with max now and I owe it ALL to 3D Buzz. Have a look at this page before you buy any books http://www.3dbuzz.com/xcart/product.php ... =10&page=1 This DVD taught me everything I know about max. I did a games development degree and ended up showing my modelling teacher more than what he knew. I personally find videos much more fun and engaging to work along with rather than flipping through books and trying to figure out what buttons they want you to click on, when you can just watch them on-screen for yourself. They teach you loads about every aspect of the software.

(P.S. I don't work for them I promise, I just really enjoyed this product!)
