I want to make the proposal to replace zziplib by libzip (http://www.nih.at/libzip/).
zziplib is licensed under LGPL/MPL. libzip is using BSD.

Re: Replacing zziplib
Isn't it only the archive plugin that uses it? Is it just a licensing compatibility issue?

Don't fix something that isn't broken.
If the license is causing a specific issue for you, maybe you should explain why, if you expect us to take your post seriously.
The MPL seems quite permissive to me.

You're free to do that yourself, but as others said, you're likely going to have to provide more motivation than a "licensing problem".Transporter wrote:I agree but not my boss and the lawyers of the company.scrawl wrote:The MPL seems quite permissive to me.
In particular, what benefits beyond licensing does this bring?
Personally, if I was going to choose a replacement, I'd choose physfs:
https://icculus.org/physfs/
That at least provides some real benefits (such as dealing with Unicode problems) and it uses a zlib-style license.

I've though for some time that Physfs should be used instead due to the amount of archive formats it handles also writing support.binarycrusader wrote:You're free to do that yourself, but as others said, you're likely going to have to provide more motivation than a "licensing problem".Transporter wrote:I agree but not my boss and the lawyers of the company.scrawl wrote:The MPL seems quite permissive to me.

Re: Replacing zziplib
libzip has write support, too. But I can also work with physfs.
